I think we’ve mentioned it before that its easy to become a performance snob especially when you’re in our position where you get to use the best of the best. Flash drives for the most part haven’t seen much action here but we do occasionally get the more lifestyle-oriented products which may not offer much on the performance scale, it will still provide a working solution for daily needs. Today we have a pair of flash drives from Silicon Power, both of which are part of their lifestyle and design-oriented products and we’ll be taking a closer look at what this drive offer both in style and function. Read on as we review the Silicon Power Jewel J10 and Unique 510 flash drives.

The Silicon Power Jewel J10 is an all-metal USB3.0 drive, intended for those that look for a modern flash drive with a sturdy frame and a design to match. The black chrome body is uniform and is only broken up by the small hole in the end of the drive. A bead chain is included in with the Jewel J10.
The Silicon Power Unique 510 on the other hand is a uniquely-shaped USB2.0 flash drive, available in a blue and pink. The Unique 510 has a padlock-shape design but is fully-rubberized, shielding the internal components beneath a flashy and chic accessory style. The shackle is highly flexible and holds the body cap in place.
User Experience  & Conclusion
We’ll opt for a more straightforward suite of tests for both our Silicon Power drives. We’ll start with seeing the maximum potential performance of both drives using ATTO Disk Benchmark. Note that the Unique 510 is a USB2.0 drive but to see its maximum performance we tested it on a USB3.0 drive.
Its clear there’s certainly much more room for improvements for both drives most especially in the write department but considering the audience of these drives, these are quite acceptable but still, they could be faster.
Now for a real-world scenario, we will be copying a single 12GB file for our large copy test (highlighted in red in the graphs below) and a bunch of files amounting to 3.31GB, ranging from 1KB-10MB (highlighted in green).
Looking closely we can see that both drives handled the miscellaneous file tests quite evenly, with the USB3.0 Jewel J10 edging a bit due to its faster channel. Large file transfers show a different picture with the Unique 510 trailing by almost 15 minutes. We certainly won’t recommend these drives if you’re transferring very large files and are in quite a hurry.
The Silicon Power Jewel J10 and Unique 510 both are functional USB flash drives, each with its own unique design to appeal to a variety of consumers. With the Jewel J10, you have a strong, long-lasting metallic device powered by a USB3.0 capabilities for faster transfer rates while the Unique 510 is chic, stylish and appealing and will complement the users lifestyle choice as an accessory.
Silicon Power provides a lifetime warranty to its products upon registration. We award both the Silicon Power Jewel J10 and Silicon Power Unique 510 our Recommendation seal.
