HERE COMES THE PAIN
Since the DTR400, we’ve been waiting for the chance to once again showcase the endurance that these flash drives have and for the DTR3.0, we have some nice footage for you. Enjoy.
Impact Endurance
For this test, we’ll be dropping 5lbs. dumbbell plates on the DataTraveler R3.0 and it’s so nice, we did it twice.
We were reluctant at first to do this because the R3.0 had larger internal components than the R400 and this is evident when touching the R3.0 but in the interest of science, we went ahead and did it. We don’t know the exact formula for force of impact but dropping those weights even at just 2 1/2′ would’ve seriously destroyed anything beneath it. How more so if you do it twice?
Water Resistance
For this round, nothing really special. Just some running water in the sink with the R3.0 getting dunked on it.
We did this before and we’re pretty confident that this drive can survive situations like this even without the cap on. The reason we kept it on is that we don’t want the plug to corrode due to oxidation. This is probably the kind of situation that a lot of people might relate with; leaving thumb drives in pockets and putting them in the washer is a common cause of death amongst flash drives.
After both of those tests, we ran two different error scans to see if there’s any problem with the drive. We’d be terribly disappointed if it suddenly developed some bad sectors or totally stopped working after all that hard work. As pictured below, you can see that the DTR3.0 is still fully functional and doesn’t have any bad sectors on it and up till now doesn’t seem to be exhibiting any performance hits so we’re pretty confident it’s still in top condition.
