ArenaNet has finally announced “Path of Fire”, the new expansion for their Buy-to-Play MMORPG, Guild Wars 2. Accompanied by a live stream event last August 1, 2017, the trailer shows game director, Mike O’Brien and the team describing the previous contents released as well as the new contents and features that the expansion will have.

The expansion takes place right after the events of the last “Living World” Season 3, after the hero and their allies saved Tyria, meanwhile, Balthazar, the god of fire and war, is building his forces and is working on killing the Elder Dragons. In the expansion will include a new area, the “Crystal Desert” (the same zone from Guild Wars 1: Nightfall) which will have 5 new zones which they say is bigger than the previous ones released.

Spellbreakers, the anti-magic specialization.

There will be 9 new elite specializations, 1 for each class namely:

  • Guardians – Firebrand (Axes)
  • Revenant – Renegade (Shortbow)
  • Warrior – Spellbreaker (Daggers)
  • Engineer – Holosmith (Swords)
  • Ranger – Soulbeast (Daggers for main-hand)
  • Thief – Deadeye (Rifles)
  • Elementalist – Weaver (Swords)
  • Mesmer – Mirage (Axes)
  • Necromancer – Scourge (Torches)
  • Renegade’s channel Kalla Scorchrazor and allow the Revenant to summon her warband.

All new elite specializations will come with their own new mechanics as well such as Firebrands replacing Virtues for Tomes, Spellweaving for Weavers, etc.

There are 4 mounts (unlocked through the Mastery System) that will be implemented upon release and they will have different skills ranging from engaging combat and traversal skills, the mounts included will be:

  • Raptor
  • Springer
  • Skimmer
  • Jackal

Purchasing the expansion also includes the 4th Season of Living World content coming after the expansion releases, similar to how they have implemented it before and as Mike has stated, this expansion is all about “content”, it seems promising on how they will support the expansion post-release.
