Hot damn. That was awesome. I dare say, best show of the season.
So there’s a hot new MMORPG in town (I lol at this since I’ve been playing Dragon Nest recently), and it’s called Sword Art Online. It features state of the art virtual technology and whatnot. So it’s like a dream for gamers. And so Kirito, one of the few beta testers, is all set to play the game.
And so he logs into the game using the virtual reality headset. The game is a blast, and he quickly finds himself tutoring Klein, a random guy who asked for his help. So yeah, online friends~
Anyway, an issue soon strikes the players as the game has no logout button. It’s not a bug though; it’s a feature. The truth is the designer of the game has some really nasty and sinister plan to the game: Clear the game, or be locked inside it forever.
The game has no way out aside from finishing it. If anyone tries to remove your headset, a microwave chip will fry your brain. If you die inside the game, the same chip will fry your brain. So it’s either finish the game or get your brains fried. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
And so here begins the players’ journey back to the real world, in the form of a game called Sword Art Online where online death means actual death.
Awesome, really. I’ve heard earlier comparisons with Accel World, both of which deals with MMORPG. I think both also have the same author. People have commented that this is way better than Accel World, and so far, I have to agree. It’s a great premise with great execution. And that’s considering we have yet to actually see a fight.
So, two thumbs up from me.
Funny though how it points out how a lot of female characters in games are actually male ^_^
SAO is what .hack was supposed to be.
