Once upon a time, Shinobu traveled abroad as a young kid and stayed at a family friend’s house. This occurred in England.

Now my problem with this segment is that a. you don’t allow young kids like that to travel alone, b. that backpack is impossible for her to carry for long, and c. you should teach kids not to go with strangers and enter their cars.

Putting that aside, Shinobu stays over in England, where she quickly hits it off with the family’s daughter who has the same age as her.

And here begins a series of wonderful, cute and sweet segments of two girls making friends across language and cultural barriers. Yes, they never were able to hold a real conversation between the two of them.

And by cute, I mean it’s really cute that a guy like me would even say so, and that’s totally not in the pedo kind of way.
Anyway, fast forward into the future and Shinobu is all grown up now. Ok, just high school kind of grown up.

And then lo and behold, Alice, the British girl, transfer into Japan and stays with Shinobu’s family.

Yep, it’s cute alright. But the thing that worries me is that the cuteness was largely about their younger years, and the pilot episode has not shown enough interaction between the girls in present day, so the cuteness might not be a sure things. And that worries me because the cuteness factor is the only thing that makes this kind of stand out among the 101 anime shows about girls being girls.
But my main beef really is the lack of a British accent. How can you have British characters speaking English without British accents?!
