Disclosure: I bought my own copy of the game at Steam.
I remember myself re-playing the single-player mode of Crysis (2007) and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007) just for the fun of playing a shooting game. Joining an online multiplayer session of shooting games would also give a fun experience but I’m not a fan of online games and I want to enjoy games that are not dependent on internet connectivity. Ravenfield is a unique single-player game that tries to give the online multiplayer shooter experience. It is a first-person shooter that focuses on fun battles and easy-to-learn game play. Describing its game play would be boring so just watch the videos below.
The game uses Unity which is also the game engine used by many indie games. It runs very well at 2560 x 1080 resolution on my gaming PC equipped with Intel Core i7 7700 and GeForce GTX 970. The number of bots you can deploy is dictated by your hardware. I have no problem with 150 bots but 200 bots or larger causes random stuttering. CPU usage was only around 30% so, it’s probably not an issue with my CPU. In terms of stability, the game sometimes crashes to the desktop but I never experienced a system freeze where I had to hard reset my PC.
Ravenfield is currently available at Steam for PhP 419.95. Steam Play is supported which means you only purchase the game once and you can play it on Linux, Mac, and Windows. Build 5 is the latest version of the game and I enjoy what it currently offers. The game is still in Early Access stage so I suggest you include it in your wishlist for now unless you are a big fan of shooters and want to support its development. A Conquest Mode is promised by the developer and we will publish a full game review once Ravenfield leaves Early Access stage.
