BIOSTAR introduced their PRO series of motherboards to replace the 6+ series that mainly saturated their budget and mainstream line of products. As with most new releases, this new series features some key refinements over the previous generations and this allows BIOSTAR to set the stage for more value-oriented products but still bill them as having some premium or must-have features. With regards to the PRO series, this centers around the build quality and stability of the products with BIOSTAR focusing on maintaining a more robust platform even in the low-end space. That’s exactly what we’re checking out today with this review with our first H110 motherboard from BIOSTAR’s PRO seriesl; the BIOSTAR H110MD PRO D4. Read on and find out more about this board.

Closer Look
The BIOSTAR H110MD PRO D4 is heavily reminiscent of the H81MHV3 from BIOSTAR also sans the pseudo-ITX look as this board is full-on microATX. The board has a 5-phase power delivery design uncommon in this price range so that’s a good addition. I/O includes the video display outputs which includes DVI and VGA with legacy PS/2 support present in the board. A pair of USB2.0 and USB3.0 is also here. A total of 4 SATAIII ports handle storage connectivity for internal storage.

We check to see how motherboard makers tune their default BIOS settings and see how it impacts temperatures and power consumption. The system is left to idle for 30 minutes before readings are taken and load data is taken 30 minutes while AIDA64 stress test is running. Power readings are taken for the entire system from the socket. Power draw for the entire system is captured for this test via an outlet wattmeter and temperatures are recorded via Intel Extreme Tuning app.

Let’s mix things up a bit and focus on this board a little bit differently than our normal breakdown. Its obvious BIOSTAR is heavily revamping its motherboard series to a more modern, fresh branding and with the 6+ branding still relevant to this release, they just wanted a renewed look to their mainstream products and the PRO series articulates that by presenting their motherboards with refined quality serving to end the notion of BIOSTAR boards being of low quality.
The BIOSTAR H110MD PRO D4 features is definitely a step-up from previous BIOSTAR releases and while there’s not much that stands out in terms of looks, the details is what matters for this board and its definitely a decent offer for its price. There are plenty of competition in this range though and all of which hover around a few dollars from each other like those from GIGABYTE and ASUS which are definitely surprising. BIOSTAR itself offers the same range of features which is the H110’s most raw feature set, what differs are the connectivity options, looks and ultimately availability. It all boils down to which board ticks most of those boxes to win your purchase.
In the case of the BIOSTAR H110MD PRO D4, its competitively well-built and competes head-to-head with the big name brands offering the same level build quality with its board components like improved MOSFETs, audio capacitors and LAN surge protection. Definitely a top choice if you’re opting for a budget build.
BIOSTAR backs this board with a 3-year warranty. We give the BIOSTAR H110MD PRO D4 our B2G Best Value Seal!
