Neowiz has quietly slipped in the much anticipated rendition of its highly-popular rhythm game for Android and iOS: DJMAX Technika Q. The game has just launched globally and finally debuts the extremely awaited DJMAX Technika format to touch-capable devicees. Prior to this, DJMAX has taken on the form of Tapsonic and DJMAX Ray for mobile which features a distant playstyle to the Technika format. That changes with DJMAX Technika Q, which follows DJMAX Technika Tune in offering the arcade version of the game to mobiles.
Developed by Team Planet and published by Neowiz Internet, the game launched last year but has just made its global debut this March 25, 2014.
DJMAX Technika Q Gameplay
DJMAX Technika Q plays just like the arcade version of the game. Players choose a song which have specific patterns to them and the player must hit the notes presented on two horizontal bars onscreen, with the patterns getting more technical as difficulty is raised.
In DJMAX Technika Q, the players can choose from 2 or 3 lines with difficulty ranged by Original, Premium and Signature. Its pretty much the same as Normal, Hard and Maximum from DJMAX Technika in the arcades. Options for disabling the Fever System, Gauge Refill, etc. are available for increased difficulty as well as various note effects.
After every song, the player is scored based on their performance. A new scoring display is present in DJMAX Technika Q with where the performance is graphed showing where the player lost rhythm or fell-of his game. The next screen then shows the rewards from gameplay and total accuracy.
The game is a clear mirror of the arcade version and is every way the same in gameplay sans the smaller screen to play with but the experience is still the same.
DJMAX Technika Q Visuals & Audio
DJMAX Technika is famous not because of its unique gameplay but also thanks to its alluring visuals and catchy music. DJMAX Technika Q brings this explosion of color and aural deliciousness to mobile and depending on your device, the experience will vary but those with high-end devices that have great audio and a highly crisp and detailed screen will fully love the transition from the dual screen to mobiles.
Although you’ll be pretty much distracted by tapping notes, the game’s visuals behind the screen doesn’t distract much and the music is tuned well to not be overpowering nor distracting. An album explorer lets player enjoy the games soundtrack and watch the AMVs within the game for their listening and viewing pleasure.
DJMAX Technika Q Fun Factor
The game once installed only features 4 songs, 5 if you registered. For casual players, that’s around 24-30 patterns to play with from the start to hone their skills and embrace the joy that is Technika. Hardcore fans will be heavily disappointed though by the massive lack of fan-favorite songs which are all locked and will need to be purchased via the shop with Q Points. The game rewards Max Points and Q Points by completing songs and quests and can be expended via the in-game store. If you’re in a rush for your favorite tracks then the game also offers in-app purchases (read: REAL MONEY) for Q Points.
All of those details lead up to the game having you grind the existing songs until you’re good enough to clear the quests and rack up some decent Q points to buy the ones you actually want to play with. Whilst its all fun, it can get tedious and repetitive which hurts replayability.
NEOWIZ has finally granted the wish of many DJMAX Technika by bringing the arcade style to mobile devices. Whilst the Tetris syndrome may have worn-down for some long-time players, many are still longing for a new DJMAX Technika game to play with. DJMAX Technika Q may just be that game that highly competitive players of the series are wanting but those that just want a casual experience will be turned-off by the massive lack of songs.
Overall the game plays good on a decent smartphone. Whilst it may lag a bit during busy patterns, the game compensates with a bit of allowance for late presses. Players of other music tapping game would find the Technika style new but its easy to get into with the 2-line format. Advanced Technika players can easily jump into the Signature 3-line difficulty and start earning those points to unlock the songs. As mentioned earlier, DJMAX Technika Q offers a highly competitive community with real time ranking and quests as well as a leaderboard for each songs. These various challenges help keep players busy and rewarded as the scene keeps getting better and better.
As a free game that is surely intended to maximize profit from micro-transactions, the initial song list isn’t enough to attract new players with the lack of a sample feature in the store to listen to the locked songs also not helping. DJMAX Technika Q is hurt by a lot of things but by far the biggest of its shortcomings is the lack of KPOP songs. Where is my Kara, NEOWIZ!!!!!????
Seriously though, if you are a fan of the Technika series, I know you’ve waited for this for a long time. Time to get tapping and earn those sets until we can get a proper DJMAX Technika 4.Download for Android Download for iOS
