Unboxing – Gigaware LK006 Keyboard Mouse Combo
The back of the packaging shows that the Gigaware LK006 Keyboard Mouse Combo is available in two colours, white-gold and black-silver. The back highlights the specification of the keyboard, the system requirements, some certifications, serial number, and all other relevant information.
Since this keyboard features an FN multimedia key function, the combination keys are indicated on the side of the packaging.
Opening the box reveals the keyboard and the mouse. The keyboard is inside a white thin foam cover protecting it from any trivial damages. The mouse, on the other hand, is inside a plastic cover for protection.
Nothing much else can be seen as this item doesn’t include any brochures, warranty pamphlets, accessories, etc…
Closer Look – Gigaware LK006 Keyboard Mouse Combo
The keyboard features a metallic surface, a 1 meter non-braided standard USB cable – no gold plating, and a standard FN 104 keyboard layout.
The design is very ergonomic but the design reminds me of those old generation LENOVO office keyboards. All keys are in their default location based on a 104 FN Keyboard layout.
The specification states that the keycaps are double shot but I believe otherwise after taking a closer look. Keycaps are not backlighting friendly as the lights of the LED doesn’t pass through.
The back reveals a metallic brushed finish design. Its footings are made of plastic and are not rubber so sliding will surely be an issue for this keyboard. That’s worth noting.
Removing one of the keycaps exposes the membrane. Nothing special worth noting from this ordinary membrane keyboard.
The design of the mouse is not something new to our eyes. It exhibits design and aesthetics similar to Newmen mouse. A design based of either on ironman or transformers.
Ergonomic wise, the mouse is quite big. It will surely be a good fit mouse to those who use either palm or claw grip. The mouse has 4 buttons – 3 standard buttons of left, right, and mouse wheel, and one DPI cycle button. This mouse supports 4 – DPI setup of 800 / 1200 / 1600 / 2400.
In terms of weight, the mouse weighs about 200 grams. Not sure if that’s heavy enough but compared to my daily mouse, 200 grams is quite lite for me. Although, after using it, the mouse has a quite nice feel to it. It has a decent weight and the comfort and ease of use are there.
The scroll wheel is made of plastic. No rubber coating or anything like that.
The bottom of the mouse features a metallic plate that is around the optical sensor, 3 Teflon feet, and other than that, nothing much else is worth noting. Oh, it also has 1 meter of non-braided standard USB cable.
Performance – Gigaware LK006 Keyboard Mouse Combo
Performance wise, the keyboard feels weird for me after using it. In terms of membrane, I’m far more used to those low profile keys and not to this mechanical keyboard design. Yes, it does add to the overall aesthetics of the keyboard but real talk, it feels weird coming from a real mechanical keyboard user.
The mouse, on the other hand, feels nice. It has a nice ergonomic size and feels to it. Though still a little small for my preference it should not be a problem to those none picky consumers.
The additional DPI cycle from 800 to 2400 is definitely a plus. However, I use 3800 DPI for a daily use so I can’t feel the DPI cycle of this mouse.
LED Performance
The backlight LED of the keyboard is quite dim. It doesn’t showcase that much vibrancy and luminance compared to those that we usually see from a keyboard. Since the keycaps are not clear, the LED light doesn’t illuminate or pass through the keycaps. Making the backlight LED look very weak.
Also, it is worth noting that the backlight LED is as is. No customization, no animation, no colour changing scheme, nothing. Just a plain rainbow constant.
The backlight LED of the mouse, on the other hand, has animation but just like the keyboard, it has no customization. It simply cycles through the colour available.
Final Thoughts…
Overall, the combo is decent but you might want to think twice before purchasing one. If you’re on a tight budget then this is probably one of the best keyboard and mouse combo that you can get for your money. It has the word “Gaming” on it and a taste of RGB backlight LED, but no customization.
The mouse performs well for me to be honest. It somehow exceeded my expectation. It feels decent to use and accuracy is quite okay too. The ergonomic design is definitely a plus as well as its DPI cycle. But it’s not a miracle mouse so don’t expect too much from it.
For the keyboard, I just can’t dig or like a mem-chanical keyboard. I just can’t get the purpose of a mechanical keyboard design that uses membrane. I know it’s there to cut cost and offer the aesthetics for those less fortunate but I just can’t dig it. I feel you’re pretty much wasting your money with this type of keyboard.
Probably great for those who want a good aesthetics for their computer shops but for personal use, you might want something else.
