With a Twitter post from ASRock confirming previously that the new 8th-gen Core processors from Intel will be requiring a new motherboard, Intel has now went officially let the cat out of the bag with the unveiling of the 8th-gen Core processors albeit only the low-power mobile SKUs that are actually based on a refreshed Kaby Lake architecture.
The reveal does confirm that Intel’s 8th-gen processors will be a mixed family with Kaby Lake Refresh and upcoming Coffee Lake products. The recent press launch of the 8th-gen parts does disclose details regarding the new products but not the expected desktop products that people we’re eager to see.
Alongside the launch was a bit more meaty details that enthusiasts wanted to see and box arts were uploaded to Intel’s website (as reported by Anandtech) shows us some key details regarding the upcoming 8th-gen Core i5 and i7 processors.
The box renders reveal the new art style for the Core i7 and Core i5 processors featuring the 14nm Coffee Lake architecture. The sides of the box art renders does disclose some information to look forward to including the core count which has now been increased to 6 on both mainstream Core i5 and Core i7, the latter having HyperThreading enabled for enhanced multi-threading performance.
The box also shows that both CPUs require the upcoming Intel 300 series chipset-based motherboards even though they are still in the LGA1151 package. There doesn’t seem to be any socket differences between previous-gen LGA1151 offerings which could lead to possible backwards compatibility with previous-gen processors from the Skylake and Kaby Lake generations.

hahahaha
Sucks for us Kaby Lake users. Need to change board pa for that extra cores.
