For the regular user, today’s normal 8GB and 16GB USB flash drive may be sufficient but there are people out there that require carrying large files on the go. Thanks to USB3.0 some the newer flash drives that support this interface enjoy high transfer speeds which is highly appreciated by anyone. Unfortunately the market isn’t that saturated with high-performing USB3.0 flash drives that fully utilize USB3.0’s full potential. Let’s get started and make this showy and see if the hype behind this flash drive is worth believing!
Kingston should be no stranger to anyone by now and they’ve established themselves pretty well in the past years since their founding in 1987. From the days of their simple RAM offerings to today’s record-setting, high-performance products Kingston has made their mark in the computing space. Kingston has introduced their HyperX line to highlight their top-of-the-line offerings which boasts incredible speeds and ratings. In this lineup is the latest member of the DataTraveler line of flash drives and the only flash drive they designated worthy of the HyperX title. Today we have the 64GB model for testing so let’s go on with the review. First, some specs:

CLOSER LOOK
[singlepic id=4878 w=320 h=240 float=center]Kingston packages the DataTravelerHyperX 3.0 in their standard blister packaging but this time features the distinct HyperX styling on the front. The capacity is boldly displayed on the label and we get to see how the DTHX30 looks from this view. Right below that we have the read/write rating of the product as well as a 5 year warranty label which is nice to have.
[singlepic id=4879 w=320 h=240 float=center]Behind the packaging we see feature highlights translated into different languages.
[singlepic id=4880 w=320 h=240 float=center]Opening up the packaging, we see its contents: the DTHX30 and a nylon tie which is tucked in between the cardboard inlet.
[singlepic id=4881 w=320 h=240 float=center]Now we get to see the DTHX30 up-close. First impressions are that itรขโฌ™s fat and huge. This is due to the number of NAND inside the product which allows it to have so much capacity. The styling is similar to other HyperX devices with a metallic/candy-tone blue adorned with matte black. The DTHX30 has a solid feel to it with a metal body reinforced with a rubberized frame for maximum survivability.
[singlepic id=4882 w=320 h=240 float=center]As this is a USB3.0 device, we can see the plug is clad in blue. This device is backwards compatible with USB2.0 so its guaranteed to work on just about any USB port for universal compatibility.
[singlepic id=4883 w=320 h=240 float=center]Here we can see the DTHX30 side by side with the ruggedized DTR400 and the highly-compact DT109 (which by the way packs the free Kingston urDrive application.)
PERFORMANCE
We test out the DataTravelerHyperX 3.0 in a couple benchmarks to see how good the numbers really are on this flash drive. An average of 3-5 benchmark runs is provided as the final figure we provide in our charts.
[singlepic id=4891 w=480 h=320 float=center]Many have dubbed this drive as a portable SSD of sorts and here we compare to a mainstream SSD, the Kingston SSDnow V+200. With 236.8MB per second read speeds on average, it dominates the SSD in this test. Maxing out at 251.9MB/s, this is way more than what Kingston has rated this drive for which is 225MB/s. With the SSDรขโฌ™s higher rating, these results are extremely impressive.
[singlepic id=4889 w=480 h=320 float=center]Again, we see some highly impressive numbers from the DTHX30 and this is compared to a high-performance SSD.
[singlepic id=4890 w=480 h=320 float=center]This is where everything gets hot. We pit the DTHX30 against the Corsair Voyager GT. Owing to its 8-channel architecture; Kingstonรขโฌ™s product simply demolishes the Corsair offering on the majority of tests. It is worth noting that Corsair outperforms the Kingston model on small file tests.
[singlepic id=4892 w=480 h=320 float=center] [singlepic id=4893 w=480 h=320 float=center]Finally we see how the drive scales with ATTO. Again, we compare our results with the Corsair Voyager GT. Once again the DTHX outperforms the competition. As weรขโฌ™ve seen earlier, the DTHX30 takes a hit with small files on write testing but once things get into the 64KB onwards, the drive flexes its performance muscle.
CONCLUSION
Kingston certainly has a winner with this product. The DataTravelerHyperX 3.0 offers high capacity that on the majority of testing shows unmatched performance. This is good to hear for professionals, enthusiasts or gamers that need a portable storage solution that is compact but has high read/write performance for moving files around.
[singlepic id=4894 w=320 h=240 float=center]The Kingston DataTravelerHyperX 3.0 is truly worthy of being part of the HyperX family. Its solid build, high performance along with capacity is truly a nice offering. Coming in at around $125 for the 64GB variant ($250 and $550 for the 128GB and 256GB respectively) that is indeed a steep asking price for a thumb drive, but if you are packing a USB3.0 port youรขโฌ™re probably rocking some decent hardware already and you are probably a power user. That said, if you demand performance from a portable storage thatรขโฌ™s SSD-like, you wonรขโฌ™t have to look any further than Kingstonรขโฌ™s DataTravelerHyperX 3.0. All of these come backed by a 5-year warranty which is a nice deal.
We highly recommend the Kingston DataTravelerHyperX 3.0 for anyone looking for a portable flash drive and need to transfer large files quickly with SuperSpeed USB. Right now all we can say is that in our opinions, this is one of the fastest thumbdrive on the planet.

The characteristics of the best USB flash drives are must be high in portability, has excellent performance and great storage capacity. I bought a Kingston Digital Data Traveler at goods.ph a week ago for my husband because he needs it for his data storage in his office, and he’s very impressed about its features and the way it transfers files.
