Treyarch announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II are now available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Both titles return as ports of the original games, developed by Iron Galaxy, giving longtime fans a chance to revisit the entries and introducing a new generation of players to the stories, characters, and moments that helped define the franchise.
This marks the first time Black Ops II has been available on PS4 or PS5, since it had previously been locked to PS3 and older platforms. Each port includes the Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies modes.
Pricing and Availability
According to CharlieIntel, each game is priced at 40 USD on PlayStation Store, with a limited-time launch discount bringing that down to 19.99 USD per game before it rises to the full price on August 6. PlayStation Plus subscribers can get each game at a discounted rate of around 20 USD during the promotional window.
A Season Pass is also available for each game at 30 USD, discounted to roughly 9.89 USD to 10 USD for PlayStation Plus subscribers. The Season Pass and DLC content are not included with the base game purchase.
PlayStation Plus subscribers can pick up the full package, both games plus their Season Passes, for around 60 USD combined during the promotional period. Outside of the discount window, the full package jumps to roughly 140 USD.
What’s Different in These Ports
These are ports rather than remasters. According to reporting from GamingTrend and CharlieIntel, the PS4 and PS5 versions do not include graphical updates, do not support 120 FPS, and do not offer FOV sliders. The games run on peer-to-peer PS4 and PS5 servers.
Crossplay is not supported, including between the PS4 and PS5 versions of the same game. Treyarch’s official description notes, “This is a classic Call of Duty experience, cross-platform Multiplayer is not supported.”
Black Ops II retains its Emblem Editor and includes camos and Extra Classes microtransactions released after the original launch at no additional cost. Black Ops does not include Wager Matches or Theater mode on these PS4 and PS5 ports.
There are currently no announced updates for Black Ops or Black Ops II on Xbox or PC, and no Nintendo Switch version has been announced. This release is limited to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
