Lunes, nang tayo’y nagkakilala~
Hase wants to be friends with Fujimiya, even though she’s widely regarded as a cold girl. She does kind of push people away, but for a good reason: Her memory of her friends reset every Monday.
As Hase does not know this yet, he tries his darndest to make friends with her, managing to at least spend a few lunches with her. But come Friday, Fujimiya explains the truth to him.
Hase doesn’t quite believe it yet, but come Monday, he sees for himself that Fujimiya did in fact forget about him. And at that point, Hase decides to keep befriending her every single week all over again.
Yes, the plot isn’t something new, as ef – A Tale of Memories as well as 50 First Dates has done something similar. The former did it with a largely heavy dramatic feel, while the latter had a lighter romantic-comedy feel. On that account, One Week Friends is more like that latter, just set in high school.
But is it good? Definitely. The plot has tons of potential for a good tug on the heart, and One Week Friends does manage to deliver that small tug. It’s not particularly heavy, as it won’t make you cry just yet, but the mood and feel of the episode is definitely full of feels.
This is possibly the season’s best bet for feels.
Rating: 8.5/10
P.S.: For better or worse, no Adam Sandler here.
