Introduction & Specification
The RTX 4070 SUPER stands to be the most compelling value amongt all of NVIDIA’s current crop of card despite the likes of the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER potentially spelling much better benefits in certain scenarios for mainstream users. But right now, the mainstream is mostly underserved, forced to step up their budgets because of the lack of raw uplift from the prior generation.

Palit’s Dual series of graphics card serves as their mainstream offering. Curiously, it shares its series name with ASUS’ DUAL series line and both fill the same purpose but so far we’ve not seen anyone complaining of confusion. Back to the graphics card at hand, the Palit RTX 4070 SUPER Dual continues the RTX 40-series’ Dual style from Palit with a plastic shroud and backplate adorning a slim 2-slot height heatsink cooled by a pair of 95mm fans which support idle-stop for 0db idle fans.
We’ve looked at the Palit RTX 4060 Dual before which features a smaller footprint than the RTX 4070 SUPER Dual but ultimately features similar design traits. Out of the box, the fans on this card are tuned to be on the low RPM side so they run very quiet but stay within 80*C, this does cause >80*C hotspot temperature which is alleviated by providing a custom fan curve.
Palit has a 3D-printed initiative for their GamingPro and Dual series card which allows users to 3D-print their own custom covers and customize them to their hearts’ content. Those without 3D printers may commission or have their projects printed via a 3rd-party service and painted and assembled afterwards.
Power Draw, Temperature and Clock Speed Analysis
Given that most cards will boost all the way to their highest potential, the numbers we see here should be a good indicator of what to expect from these cards in general. Results are captured via inline power metering instruments primarily Powenetics v2 by Cybenetics/Hardware Busters for accurate card-only data capture. Occassionally, we use PCAT v2 (or v1) for FrameView-related functionalities. Powenetics v2 is the modern iteration of our original Powenetics system licensed from Cybenetics Labs and allows more thorough read-outs for the entire system including the CPU power, GPU power (+PCIe slot) and the system power overall. This removes the guess work from taking power readings from differing GPU APIs and provides consistent readings regardless of vendors.
Clock Speed Behavior and Temp-Power Behavior
Clock speed is directly affected by the GPU and the dynamic boost clock will take advantage of cooler GPUs as it pushes clock speed higher. In the charts below we show the test card’s behavior under gaming load: one chart shows the GPU clock speed and its relation with GPU core temperature while the other shows temperature and relative to power draw.
To interpret the charts, as the card heats up, there is a potential for the GPU speed to go down. A steady decline means that the card cannot sustain its boost clocks which means cooling is inadequate. A consistent temperature with consistent clock speed means this is our stable GPU clock speed and is the intended speed for this GPU.
Contributing to increased heat is power draw. If a GPU cannot fully contain its heat dissipation, higher power draw can cause it to heat-up further. A steady rise in temperatures will result in a decline in clock speeds as well as power draw. The power readings are strictly from the GPU alone as gathered by our instrumentation as indicated above.

Note: Proprietary technologies of NVIDIA like PCSS, HBAO+, and HairWorks work on AMD GPU’s BUT to maintain uniformity amongst GPUs, these have been turned OFF. Ray tracing has its own dedicared performance section. Upscaling technologies are covered in their own dedicated articles. Upscaling summary will be briefly presented in this section.
For this test, only the out-of-box normal mode will be tested. Most cards that have dual BIOSes for Quiet and Performance will be tested in Performance mode.
Notes:
- All data are gathered from exactly the same system, with exactly the configuration we list here. No data is reused from another system or from any variations. We gather data from only one system as indicated here.
- Graphics cards are allowed to heat up prior to benchmarking. Cooler graphics cards may boost higher than normal.
- Following up on the above, we try to enjoy the game and play a bit before proceeding to the actual benchmark scenario. This allows us to detect any other problems like stuttering, frame skipping, or any other problems.
- Games that receive graphical updates that affect performance like DOTA2 moving from DX9 to DX11, Rainbow Six Siege changing its detail presets, etc. will be retested completely.

Average Performance
In this section we take the geometric mean of all the values for our games and display both for each resolution of performance for traditional raster and ray traced performance. We switched from arithmetic mean (average) due to the effect of esports games and their large FPS value on the overall average. The geometric mean shows us a more balanced view of overall performance across our tested games.
[amcharts id=”FPS-Chart-Geomean” data-file=”/data/GPU/GPUDB-Q2-2024/GPU-DB-Perf.csv” data-mode=”Raster” data-sort=”asc” data-highlight=”PALIT RTX 4070 SUPER Dual”]Relative Performance
The chart below shows the relative performance of our tested card against the general performance of other GPUs we’ve tested.

Aside from a pair of games, all of our games after our esports batch are tested with ray tracing enabled. The chart below shows the overall ray tracing performance of the GPUs tested followed by individual results. The percentage next to the FPS result is the performance penalty of ray tracing enabled versus when ray tracing is off or what is also referred to as rasterization.

The Palit GeForce RTX 4070 Dual is exactly the right card for those either looking for a budget option or want or an RTX 4070 SUPER that fits exactly in a 2-slot height space. While there are other options out there for that second reason, pricing will be a factor for some and its going to be hard to contend with the Palit RTX 4070 SUPER Dual’s current listing.
In terms of overall performance, the RTX 4070 SUPER seems the most ideal amongst the current crop of RTX 40-series cards especially if you’re previously on a similar tier card from maybe 4 or so older generation. Anyone with an RTX 3070 would probbaly not need to dive to an RTX 40 for most gaming needs unless they can utilize RTX 40 tech like Frame Generation but for the most part if you do feel like upgrading, the RTX 4070 SUPER sites at the same price as the post-cryptoboom RTX 3070 pricing which unfortunately is just around 2 years ago.
Focusing on the Palit RTX 4070 SUPER Dual itself, there’s really not much to say. Its the definitive reference RTX 4070 SUPER experience and its as intended. Perfect for high-refresh rate 1080p esports or mainstream 1440p, the xx70 class of GeForce cards have been a stalwart champion for those going from 1080p to 1440p and the RTX 4070 SUPER continues that tradition.
The Palit RTX 4070 SUPER Dual has all the hallmark of a reliable card and as a Palit owner of at least one card from every generation, this card seems to be another reliable addition in that family. Palit backs the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Dual with a 3-year warranty. It earns a Best Value award for its pricing position (for non-OC variant).
