Last July 14, 2016, Futuremark released the Time Spy benchmark. It’s not a new stand-alone benchmark software but an upgrade feature for the exisitng 3DMark. We are aware that this might be of little interest to gamers since it is a benchmark that does not represent real world game play. However, in our comparison of GTX 1060 and RX 480, we showed the benchmarks of Rise of the Tomb Raider running in DX12 mode. That’s the only DX12 game we have right now so we decided to see if the benchmark function of FRAPS v3.5.99 will also work in the Time Spy DX12 benchmark. Fortunately, it works and the results of Time Spy benchmark’s frame rate counter matches the FRAPS data we have gathered.
We started the FRAPS benchmark at the 5-second mark of the Time Spy benchmark time counter. FRAPS benchmark lengths are 45 seconds and 60 seconds for Graphics Test 1 and Graphics Test 2, respectively. The GPU driver used was GeForce 368.81.
We are glad to inform you that we would be including more DX12 benchmarks in the future since we have a user-friendly benchmark tool that we can use for DX12 games. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be released this August 24, 2016. Hopefully, it’s DX12 mode will be stable enough on release date so we can include it in our list of games for benchmarking.
For now, let’s get back to gaming.
