The live action adaptation of the beloved Kenshin Himura will be showing in the country this coming Oct. 17 at SM Cinemas. Takeru Sato (of Kamen Rider Den-O & the live-action adaptation of Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad (as Koyuki)) is the famous Kenshin “Battousai” Himura in the movie screen version of the anime/manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki.
Based on the trailers, the live action Rurouni Kenshin would cover the Jin-E and Oniwabanshu arcs so expect to see more familiar faces that were not seen in the trailers (ie. the Oniwabanshu et al.).
Hailed by Kotaku writer Richard Eisenbeis as a nearly perfect film adaptation, local fans wanted a piece of the action and started an online petition of bringing the movie to the country since it was feared that this would only be a Japan only release.
Fans from the world over however was in for a treat since the movie was such a smash hit (that it even beat the Avengers in the Japan Box Office) that it was announced that 64 countries will be screening the film. Speculation and anticipation was building up for the film but it was SM Cinema who broke the tension through their fanpage announcement.
It is still unclear if this is going to be a one-day thing or is this film limited to only an SM Cinema. But what is sure is that it would be shown here in the country.
So for now, let’s all enjoy the sub-titled trailer and hope that we can ALL see it.
