AMD is officially removing the veil on their new products for the last part of the year including updates for their new Ryzen Threadripper based on the new Zen2 architecture. This update covers three new products for entry-level, upper mainstream and high-end desktop (HEDT) with three major product announcement.
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 16-Core CPU
First off, AMD is revealing their top-end Ryzen processor with the Ryzen 9 3950X. Already anticipated since the release of the first wave of 3rd-gen Ryzen, the Ryzen 9 3950X is a 16-core processor with 32 threads with a base clock of 3.5Ghz and a turbo boost frequency of 4.7Ghz. The processor has a TDP rating of 105W and will be drop-in compatible with all AM4 motherboards supporting 105W TDP CPUs. This includes the majority of X370, B350, B450, X470 and X570 motherboards as long as their VRMs can handle the CPU.

The R9 3950X will sit on top of the 3rd-gen Ryzen stack with a price of $749 and will be available on November 25.
With 4 more cores than the Ryzen 9 3900X, the R9 3950X’s 16-core/32-thread easily offers 42% more performance in Adobe Premiere Pro versus the i9-9900K and +22% more in single threaded applications.
Efficiency improvements in Zen2 sees the R9 3950X having a power draw of around 173W.
The R9 3950X will also feature a new eco-mode setting, dropping the chip from 105W to 65W. This drops performance to around 77% of full power but we also see temperature improvements as well as power less power draw.
Athlon 3000G Fully Unlocked CPU
Moving over to the entry-level side, AMD is continuing the success of their Athlon 200GE with the new 3000G processor. This processor is built on the original Zen architecture and is a 2-core/4-thread CPU with a 3.5Ghz clock speed. The CPU has built-in Radeon Vega 3 graphics card and has a TDP rating of 35W.
The Athlon 3000G is priced at $49 and will be available by November 19.
The main draw of the Athlon 3000G is a fully unlocked CPU allowing overclocking for improved performance with the CPU allowing 60FPS+ gaming on Fortnite, Rocket League and CS:GO on 720p. Overclocking the CPU shows improvements for creator software once overclocked to 3.9Ghz.
3rd-gen Ryzen Threadripper
Last up we have an initial reveal of the 3rd-gen Ryzen Threadripper with 2 CPUs coming out from the announcement which includes a 24-core and 32-core part. The top-end CPU is the TR-3970X which is a 32-core/64-thread part, sporting a base clock of 3.7Ghz and a single-threaded boost frequency of 4.5Ghz with a massive 144MB cache. The 24-core/48-thread TR-3960X will ahve a 3.8Ghz CPU clock and can boost up to 4.5Ghz. The TR-3970X has a price of $1999 and the TR-3960X is available for $1399.
The new 3rd-gen Threadrippers will be based on the 7nm Zen2 architecture and will feature the majority of the 3rd-gen Ryzen features including PCIe Gen4 and plenty of connectivity.
Something different in this release is the need for a new socket and chipset with AMD revealing the new TRX40 chipset and the sTRX4 socket. The new TRX40 chipset is armed with a total of 88 PCIe Gen4 lanes.
More information will be revealed by AMD for the Threadrippers in the coming days.
