Humanity is living within walls. This is primarily because there are these giant creatures out there, who prey on the humans. Most people are fine with that, given that for the past 100 years or so, no giant / titan has ever been able to go past the walls. So in that sense, the walls are their unbreakable barrier keeping them safe.
However, some people believe humans should find a way to overcome this situation, rather than just live like caged livestock inside their walls. And so there is this recon group that goes outside to fight against these giants.
Eren, our main character, is not among them. He’s just a kid, who admires them.
But on this particular fateful day, the recon group comes back, having nothing to show aside from just dead or injured members.
Moreover, something big happens this day. By big, I mean a huge ass titan shows up and makes a hole in their wall.
Yep, they’re screwed, big time. Eren run towards his house to look for his mom, with the help of Mikasa (looks like a girl they adopted). But alas, her legs have already been crushed by the collapsed house. Eren and Mikasa try to lift the pillar up to free the mother, but alas, a titan arrives, and all the Hannes, a town guard, could do is escape together with the two kids.
And thus, Eren sees with his own eyes how his mother was killed and eaten by a titan.
The show was ridiculously intense, and awesome. The art is clean and has a distinctive feel to it; it actually reminds me of a way more polished Jojo. The plot is serious and meaty, and the action is full of gore and win. On the other hand one might suggest that there might be too much gore in it, but I’d say the plot calls for it.
While we have yet to see any form of bad-assery from humans, the show beautifully weaves dread and interest in its plot, and I have no idea how someone who have seen this first episode can help himself from watching the next.
