The folks over at 2K Asia recently dropped a new trailer showcasing WWE 2K16’s extensive creation suite, and as someone who loves a good character creation mode, there’s plenty to get excited over in this installment. Here’s a bit of disclosure for you: I spend way more time in the WWE games’ creation tools than I do in any of the modes that involve actual wrestling. While that basically explains why I’m so bad at the core wrestling mechanics, I still think it’s a fair trade-off. The process of going nuts and recreating yourself, your friends, or pretty much anyone you can think of (which may include, but is not limited to celebrities) is tons of fun in and of itself.
The requisite Create-A-Superstar and Create-A-Diva modes are here, of course, with a seemingly more flexible set of customization options to make your creations as accurate or outlandish as you want them to be. Joining and rounding out the suite are Create-A-Championship, Create-An-Entrance, Create-An-Arena, and Create-A-Show. All the aforementioned modes have had appearances over the course of the series, and pretty much work the way you expect them to. Create-A-Show is the new one in the bunch. From the looks of it, the mode lets you start up your own custom weekly WWE show, right down to, of course, the arenas and the match cards. For instance, if you ever wanted to create a Saved By The Bell-inspired program, then by all means, 90’s the hell out of it.
Notably absent this time around is Create-A-Finisher, but given how little time I’ve spent tooling around in it, the mode won’t be missed that much. A smaller, but exponentially more flexible set of tools to customize your experience goes a longer way than a whole stable of shallow creation modes. And while this year’s set seems pruned down to a choice few, it’s still a massive step up from last year’s dearth of options. Yuke’s and Visual Concepts have indeed been listening to fan feedback, and it shows. We’ll have more on how extensive these tools are once the game finally runs into the ring at the end of the month on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360, so stay tuned!
