“Hive” is another multiplayer shooter game released in 2017. Many people are wondering if they should try out the game, as there are so many shooters out there. The question is, does this game bring something new to the table?

That’s why we asked the people from the “PlayHiveGame” website to tell us a bit more about the game. Luckily, they were glad to give us more input about the game and share some of their impressions. The game was developed and published by Catness Game Studios.

Now let’s see what the people at PlayHiveGame have to say about this relatively new multiplayer shooter.

More About Hive

Hive is a 2.5D game with a standard side scroll layout, a futuristic design, and chaotic gameplay. Each stage is called a Hexadium, which is basically a combat area shaped like a hexagon. The whole game takes place on a planet called “HIVE.”

A single battle can have up to a maximum of 10 players. Hive offers four different races players can choose from:

  1. UFG (human soldiers)
  2. NHC (modified humans)
  3. EVO (Robots)
  4. Aeons (Aliens)

There are three types of game modes:

  1. Survival: heroes face large waves of enemies in a cooperative mode. This mode can also be played offline.
  2. King of The Hill: two teams play vs. each other. Their goal is to conquer and hold three strategic zones that are located across the maps.
  3. Deathmatch: the simplest mode in which the goal of each team is to get as many kills as possible before the time runs out.

Fun 2.5D Combat You Never Tried Before

On paper, Hive doesn’t offer anything special. However, the people at PlayHiveGame say that the fun starts once you’ve actually tried the game. It’s all about multiplayer combat. The maps offer 360-degree movement. It rotates as players are dashing, running, and leaping through the map.

The result is very fun and dynamic gameplay. You might think that the 2D setting is limiting, but it offers some interesting tactics and features. You can go around enemies, surprise them from behind, and react in a second to gain the advantage.

The unique characters and their abilities give variety to the gameplay, adding to its explosiveness and pace. The whole gameplay has a competitive feel where it’s all about getting a feel for the game mechanics and reacting quickly. At the same time, the dynamic map and unique abilities make gameplay even deeper.

Tower Defense-Like Co-Op

Many of the people who work at PlayHiveGame are gamers who have played many different games in the past. For them, one of the best game modes in Hive is Survival. Players can play this mode solo offline or together with friends online.

Either way, the goal remains the same. Heroes face waves of monsters that they need to defeat before the time runs out. It’s a similar design to tower defense games. However, players control all the shooting and directly impact how the minions are tackled.

Instead of building towers, they upgrade their weapons and characters. Through their development, they can create tactics and different approaches for a variety of stages. It’s an entirely different experience from the typical PvP modes, but it has an addictive quality to it.

2D Quake in the Making

Hive multiplayer is what most players will like. Some of the older players at PlayHiveGame remember Quake and how much fun they had playing this game. They all agree that Hive reminds them of Quake in terms of gameplay, which is surprising since Quake was a 3D game.

Nevertheless, they say that the game has a simple gameplay but subtle mechanics and differences that impact the game in a major way. Yes, classes matter and all of them have their strengths and weaknesses. However, for PlayHiveGame players, it’s about getting a feel for the game.

You need to learn how to react when the map shifts, observe other players’ movements, and make decisions instantly to win. Overall, it has a great competitive element that brings tons of fun to the whole experience. At the same time, each map is futurist and unique in its own way, giving more mechanics to explore.

Conclusion

When all is said and done, Hive is a game worth checking out. If you enjoy competitive multiplayer shooting games, you’re going to love it. Even though the graphics aren’t the best you can find today, the gameplay is far from lacking.

As mentioned before, it has an addictive quality to it without any strings attached. Just start and play!
