So in continuing the nature of the series of guides targeted for you new Team Fortress 2 players. Here’s the achievement guide for the ever-lovable Heavy and his SANDVICH! Here’s a nod to people at Big Download.
Iron Kurtain
Take 1000 points of damage in a single life.
This achievement is one of the first ones you should get as a Heavy in normal play. If you are working with a Medic, go on the offensive and push towards the enemy, retreating when you are faced with overwhelming force. If you manage to stay alive long enough, you will get it pretty easily. If you don’t have a friendly Medic to heal you in the front lines, play defense and heal up at your cabinet whenever you take 150-200 points of damage. You’ll get it pretty easily as long as you play it safe.
To grind this one, have a Medic (or Medics) heal you and get a few enemy players, preferably Medics as well, to shoot you with their weakest weapon (in this case, the Syringe gun or Blutsauger). If you get 4 enemy players, you can also get Quadruple Bypass for your healing Medic. Just make sure that you let the enemy team know when to stop shooting if you are near death.
Also, in order for this achievement to register, you must die once reaching 1000 damage taken or higher.
Tip: Remember that you have exactly 300 health, and that you overheal to 450 health. Use it to keep track of how much damage you have taken.
Party Loyalty
Kill 50 enemies within 3 seconds of them attacking your Medic.
This one takes a combination of luck, skill, and awareness of your attached Medic. Basically, if you see your medic begin to take damage on the little “being healed by” bar at the bottom, quickly turn around and find who is damaging your friend. Them kill them. Do this 50 times (not in a single life, that would be a nightmare) and you got it! It should be something you are doing anyways.
To grind this one, get a bunch of Scouts on the enemy team. Have them hit your Medic one at a time with a baseball bat, and then unload on them afterwards. It’s also a great way to get Permanent Revolution, as long as you don’t spin down between Scout attacks.
Tip: This one can’t be done on friendly fire servers. Don’t even try it. You’ll kill your own medic way too fast.
Division of Labor
Kill 20 enemies with a Medic assisting you, where neither of you die.
This achievement is really just the same achievement as Big Pharma mentioned in theรย first part of the Medic achievement guide. As a Heavy, though, slightly different strategy applies. To do this normally, you probably want to play defense on a map like 2fort or Goldrush. Make sure you have a Medic consistently healing you as you mow down enemy players. Much like Big Pharma, this achievement is incredibly hard to pull off in normal gameplay.
To grind this achievement, have the entire opposing team play Scouts and make them run at you and your Medic combo. It’s a great way to get Permanent Revolution, Red Oktoberfest, Don’t Touch Sandvich, and Heavy Industry.
Tip: Just like Big Pharma, only the Medic getting the assist points counts.
Red Oktoberfest
Earn a domination for a Medic who’s healing you.
This achievement should be fairly easy to get, at least if you have a Medic staying with you most of the time. Just kills lots of players. If you and the Medic stay alive long enough, chances are you’ll both get a domination on somebody. It’s an achievement you can get pretty easily in normal play, just play normally and be a good Heavy with a good Medic.
To grind this achievement, have Scouts run to you and blast them away. Kill the same Scout three times, and you’ll earn both you and your Medic a domination. It can be done with any class, but Scouts die the fastest. Extremely simple and easy to grind.
Tip: It doesn’t have to be a Domination from scratch. The Medic can kill a few times himself. As long as the domination is got through the assist, the achievement will count.
Crime and Punishment
Kill 10 enemies carrying your intelligence.
This one is more of a time thing than anything else. As a Heavy, play a defensive game. Obviously, it’s easiest on 2fort, given the layout of the map. Good places to hang around when you know the enemy is still trying to escape with your intel is the exits for both the straight and the spiral stairs. Another good place is in the courtyard, as most players go up the straight stairs to try and escape.
To farm this one, get a bunch of enemies in your intel room and have an engineer set up a dispenser next to you. Have them pick up the intel individually, and then unload on them. The dispenser is to both keep your ammo up as well as work on the Factory Worker achievement, which requires kills while next to a dispenser.
Tip: The enemy must be holding the intel. If they drop it right before death, or you kill them while they are nearby, you’ll get a defense. While this is good, it doesn’t count towards this achievement.
Class Struggle
Work with a friendly Medic to kill an enemy Heavy & Medic pair.
This one can be infuriating or simple, depending on the skill of you and your Medic as well as the opposing pair of a players. The best way to do this is to ambush the pair so that you can eliminate the Medic before the Heavy can respond. You could probably do it in a head-on battle, but it would be much more difficult than a simple ambush would.
To farm this one, just have a Heavy & Medic pair stand still while you murder them. Make sure the Medic is healing the Heavy, or it doesn’t count. A good achievement to do with this one is Photostroika. Just make sure your Medic รยผbers you as you kill either member of the pair.
Tip: As mentioned above, the Medicรย must be healing the Heavy as you kill him, or it won’t count.
Soviet Block
While invulnerable and on defense, block an invulnerable enemy Heavy’s movement.
This one is interesting, to say the least. Basically, play a map like Goldrush where you can set up an รยผber before the round starts. Chances are an enemy Heavy and Medic pair will do the same. When you see them รยผber, do the same, rush forward, and block them from moving. Much like football, really (hence the icon).
To farm this, get an opposing Medic and Heavy pair to รยผber and move forward. Then have your Medic รยผber you and move forward, stepping in front of the enemy Heavy. As long as you block his forward movement, you’ll get the achievement. Pretty easy, really.
Tip: You don’t have to block all movement, just forward movement.
Stalin the Kart
Block the enemy from moving the payload cart 25 times.
This one is more grinding than anything. In normal play, just play a Payload map and run to the cart as an enemy is capturing it. You will defend it, preventing it from moving, thus netting you a single time towards the “block the payload cart 25 times”. Repeat, either after death or by running away and coming back. Eventually you’ll reach 25 blocks.
Farming this is much the same. Get someone to move the cart, then step near it to cancel the capture. Then step back just enough to start the capture again. Then step forward and block. It’s tedious, but it will get you the achievement pretty quickly and painlessly.
Tip: You don’t have to stand in front of the cart, just near it. Standing near a cart causes it to stop, much like how standing on a control point stops a capture
Supreme Soviet
Get ubered 50 times.
This one you should get in normal play pretty easily. Just find a team with a few good Medics and play like you always do. You should get รยผbered every once in a while to make a major push. Each รยผber puts you one step closer to this achievement and your new weapons. Quite possibly one of the easiest achievements to get in normal play. It just takes a play.
To farm this achievement, get an enemy Soldier or Demo or someone to keep damaging you. You should also have a medic healing you to build up his รยผbercharge. As soon as the Medic gets รยผbercharge, he should deploy it. Do this a whopping 50 times (it takes a long time!) and the achievement is yours for the taking. Great achievement to work on in conjunction with the Medic’s Specialist or Chief of Staff achievements, as this takes a long time.
Note: Kritzkrieg ubercharges do count, and so do multiple รยผbers at the same time.
Factory Worker
Kill 20 enemies while being recharged by a dispenser.
This one in normal play is sort of a defender’s dream. Have an engineer build a dispenser in a good spot and stand next to it. Keep your gun revving, and unload on any enemies that pass in front of you. Simple and easy. Keep in mind that it doesn’t have to be in one life either (thankfully).
To grind this, get an engineer to set up a dispenser near the enemy spawn. Make sure it’s stocked to the max before starting. Once it’s full, have the enemy team play all scouts and rush at you as you mow them down. It’s a great achievement to do in conjunction with Big Pharam & Division of Labor, as you can be healed and recharged at the same time without problem.
Tip: The dispenser doesn’t have to be giving you ammo to count, just healing.
Soviet Union
Get 25 enemy kills where you either assist or are assisted by another Heavy.
This one obviously requires that another Heavy be on your team. As for getting it, as it covers both assists and kills you were assisted with, so it can be gotten fairly quickly. As long as both people credited for the kill are Heavies, they will get progress towards this achievement. So just work together with a friendly Heavy to wreck the enemy team!
To farm this, get two heavies on your team and have an enemy team comprised entirely of scouts, and just unload on them as they rush you. You’ll get it after 25 kills, as long as each Heavy deals at least a little bit of damage to a Scout the other Heavy killed.
Tip: Can’t be done if a Medic is healing the Heavy that gets the kill, because he will get the assist, not the helping Heavy.
Own the Means of Production
Remove 20 stickybombs by killing the Demomen who produced them.
This one is a perfect fit for offensive Heavy players. Try and sneak up or otherwise hunt down demomen that aren’t aware of you. When you kill a Demo, his sticky grenades instantly disappear from the field, and depending on how many are placed and how many Demo players are on the enemy team, it could take ten seconds or ten days to get this achievement. Pretty easy, though, and likely to be gotten in regular gameplay.
To farm this, have an enemy Demo shoot his entire load of stickies. After he does so, kill him. Have him do this three times and you will get the achievement. One of the easiest and fastest achievements to farm so far. Just make sure he doesn’t accidentally kill you, as it will slow down how much time it takes.
Tip: The maximum amount of grenades a Demo can launch is 8, so at minimum you have to kill 3 Demos.
Krazy Ivan
Kill 100 enemies while both you and your victim are underwater.
This one is much like the other achievements of this pack: easy to get, but it just takes a little while. Basically, when you fall into water, make sure to eliminate any enemies you might see in the water after you’ve dropped into it. After doing this a lot of times, you’ll get the achievement.
To get this farming, you need only look to 2fort. Get a friendly Engineer to build a dispenser in the water, or better yet, at the entrance of one of the sewers through the moat under the bridge. Stand there, either submerged or crouched in the sewer water, and unload on anyone you see.
Tip: Crouching in knee-high water will count as being submerged.
Rasputin
In a single life, get shot, burned, bludgeoned, and receive explosive damage.
This one is almost a gimme. As a Heavy, you soak damage like no other class. You don’t even need to farm this. Just take part in an assault on an enemy base and you’ll encounter at least one of each of these damage types if the enemy team is competent. If you really need to farm though, the suggested order of damage is bludgeoning, shot, burning, and blast. Things that you hit hard with (like fists or wrenches) are bludgeoning, anything that uses bullets is shooting, burning is only available from the Pyro, and blast is from rockets (including sentry rockets) and grenades.
Tip: If you die as you receive the last bit of damage, you’ll still get the achievement.
Icing on the Cake
Get 20 kills on players that you’re dominating.
This one is not, as you might be led to believe, getting 20 dominations. This is actually killing 20 people that you are currently dominating again without them killing you (hence removing your nemesis status). Chances are you can get this easily, since players that you are dominating are likely to continue to die by your hand. So to get it normally, find a Medic to pair with and go at it!
To farm, get a friend to be Scout on the opposite team and kill him 23 times. 3 times will give you the domination, and the other 20 will give you the achievement. If a Medic is with you, you can also get Big Pharma and Division of Labor rather painlessly. Easy but takes a long time to farm. Make sure that the Scout is dominated before you kill him more.
Tip: If you are killed by the same person you are dominating after killing them again (such as being killed by a Pyro’s flames), it still counts.
Crock Block
Survive a direct hit from a critical rocket.
This one is pretty easy to get. Have a Medic continue to heal you as you fight a Soldier. When the Soldier fires a critical rocket, jump into the path of the rocket and let it explode against you. As long as you are overhealed, you will survive it. To do this normally, just be an offensive oriented Heavy that has a Medic attached who suicidally jumps in front of rockets.
To do it farming-wise, just hold in front of a Soldier until he hits you with a critical rocket, and make sure that you are overhealed or being healed by a Medic. As soon as you get hit by a critical, as long as you didn’t die, you will get the achievement.
Tip: As the achievement suggested, splash damage doesn’t count. The rocket must hit you directly.
Kollectivization
Get 1000 assists.
This one isรย the Heavy grind. It is probably the achievement you will get last, mostly out of the fact that it will take forever to get. Doing this normally and doing it farming is pretty much the same process. There isn’t anything special to doing this. Start up a Heavy, start killing stuff. The only difference between normal and farming is whether or not the enemies will fight back.
Note: This is getting 1000 assists, not providing 1000 assists. Kills do not count towards this.
Spyalectical Materialism
Kill or assist in killing 10 cloaked spies.
This one is mostly luck to get in normal play. You have to bump into an enemy Spy or see them cloak in order to get a bead on an enemy Spy. However, as it also counts if you get an assist, this is a great achievement to get by working with a Pyro on defense. If you damage the Spy, and the Pyro torches him, you will get progress towards this achievement.
To farm this one, work with an enemy Spy. Have him cloak in front of you, and then unload on him while he is still cloaked. After he dies 10 times, you will snag the achievement. Extremely easy to farm as long as the Spy fights the temptation to backstab you (which is a rather large temptation, we must admit!).
Tip: The spy must be fully cloaked or beginning to de-cloak as he died. If you kill him as he cloaks, before he finished, it doesn’t.
Permanent Revolution
Kill 5 enemies without spinning down your gun.
This one is incredibly easy to get, as long as you manage to not die between killing enemies. Make your way to the enemy base and get near a high-traffic area. Start spinning your gun, and just start killing enemies. Make sure you have alt-fire constantly held down to keep the gun spinning after a kill you keep from wasting ammo. After 5 kills, if you didn’t wind down, you will get the achievement.
To farm this one, get 5 Scouts to line up. Unload on them, not stopping until the very last one has died. As soon as the 5th Scout falls, you will get the achievement. You don’t even have to use the alt-fire to continue the spin like doing it normally.
Tip: If the gun at any point starts to spin down, it counts, even if it never comes to a complete stop.
Communist Mani-Fisto
Kill an enemy with a critical punch.
This one can be easy or hard, depending on what kind of Heavy you are. If you are the kind to get up in the face of your enemy, you should get this easily. If you are the kind that plays mind games and attacks mostly with firearms, you may find it a little hard. Since a critical Heavy punch will kill just about any class in a single hit, it’s fairly likely that if you kill an opponent, it was a critical and you’ll get the achievement.
To farm this, get a Medic with Kritzkrieg to charge up his ubercharge and then uber you. As you have guaranteed criticals, walk up to any enemy class and punch them. They should die after one to two hits, netting you the achievement with minimal effort.
Tip: This is more of an easter egg, but right-clicking while punching punches with the right hand!
Redistribution of Health
Heal 1000 damage with med-kits in a single life.
This one is rather dangerous for a Heavy to do, as it’s very easy to die without a helpful Medic around. However, it’s easier for defensive Heavies than offensive Heavies, thanks to the better location of med-packs. Basically, as you get damaged, heal yourself through med-packs instead of Medics, and you’ll get the achievement as long as you stay alive to pay the 1000 mark.
To farm this, get near a full med-pack an enemy Demo to plant two bombs under you and blow you into the air. The bomb damage and fall should nearly kill you. Then collect the med-pack to instantly return to full. Repeat until achievement is gotten. Remember that you can fall on med-packs to keep from dying, as the health triggers before fall damage.
Tip: This does not include healing through the cabinet. The achievement will not trigger until you die.
Rationing
Kill an enemy with your shotgun while you’re out of minigun ammo.
This one is pretty easy to get in normal play. Simply run out of minigun ammo and attack an enemy with your shotgun. If you manage to kill them with it while your minigun ammo is zero, you’ll snag the achievement. Make sure you don’t run into a discarded enemy weapon while doing so, or you’ll get ammo for your minigun and not get the achievement.
To farm this one, empty all your ammo into a nearby wall. Then have an enemy stand in front of you while you pump shotgun shells into their willing body. As soon as they drop, you’ll get the achievement. Pretty easy to farm, and you don’t even need to have a willing partner to farm it. As long as you are good with a shotgun, anyways.
Tip: If you damage someone with the minigun, run out of ammo, then kill them with the shotgun, you will still get the achievement.
Vanguard Party
Be the first on your team to start capturing a control point in a round.
This one is exactly the same to get in normal play and by farming, so we’ll just cover them in a single tactic. Basically, just convince your teammates that you need the achievement and that they shouldn’t start capping the point right away. If they are nice, they’ll let you be the first to cap, netting you the achievement with no muss or fuss. Just make sure to be courteous to another Heavy trying to get it at a later date.
Tip: Blocking a capture doesn’t count and if you are blocking a capture and then revert it and start capping the point, you’ll get the achievement. But not if someone else is with you.
Pushkin the Kart
Get 50 caps on payload maps.
Welcome to another grind achievement! To get this in normal play, have fun being the cart defender! You must stick by the cart at all times, so that you get credit for the capture upon it going over a checkpoint. Just keep playing offense on payload maps, and you’ll get it.
To farm this one, just join an empty payload server with a friend. Have him play the enemy team and do nothing while you capture. Then grind away. Simple but long. It is suggested that your partner read a book or something to pass the time while you grind.
Tip: It counts only actual caps, not cap points. So each checkpoint is only worth 1 towards this achievement.
Marxman
Kill 10 enemies in mid-air with the minigun.
This one is interesting, to say the least. To do it in normal play, team up with a Soldier or Demo for a base assault. Whenever you see an enemy fly into the air from an explosion, gun them down. With that sort of teamwork, you’ll get the achievement in no time.
To farm, get a couple friends to play Scouts. Have them double-jump in front of you as you gun them down. Each one you kill in mid-air translates to progress in the achievement. As soon as 10 go down, you will get the achievement!
Tip: Jumping enemies count as being in mid-air.
Gorky Parked
Kill 25 enemies while you’re standing on a control point you own.
To do this normally, play as a defensive Heavy. That is, play on a defensive team on a map such as Granary. Stay on the point and kill anyone who approaches. Works best when you have a medic to help you out. As soon as 25 enemies bite the dust to your awesome defending skills, you will get the achievement.
To farm this achievement, just have the other enemy team play Scouts (noticing a pattern here?) and have them rush at you as you stand on a point. Gun them down, and you’ll get the achievement lickity split. Make sure you are standing on the control point completely!
Tip: A point that is being captured still counts as yours. So you can run onto a point to block a capture and then kill everyone.
Purge
Kill 15 enemies capturing a control point you own.
This one is also another defensive Heavy grind. basically, whenever you see a point being captured, rush to it and eliminate the fool who dares to captureรย your point. Once you do it 25 times, you’ll get the achievement. Will be easy to get if you are regularly on the losing team, hard if you normally dominate.
To farm this one, just get enemies to rush onto a friendly control point. As each make it on and start capturing it, blow them away. It’s a great achievement to work on in conjunction with Division of Labor, thanks to the amount of kills necessary.
Tip: If you are blocking the capture, it won’t count. Instead, it will count towards Gorky Parked.
Lenin A Hand
Help 5 teammates get revenge on their nemeses.
This one isรย hard. It’s both time-consuming and is equal measure luck and skill. Probably the easiest way you are going to get it is by getting revenge on any nemeses your Medic has. As it counts when you get a kill or assist, so long as your teammate has the guy as a nemesis, you’ll gain progress towards the achievement. Have fun!
To farm this, have a five enemies kill your Medic three times each without the Medic killing them back. As soon as the Medic is being dominated by all five, have the Medic heal you and mow them down. Bam, instant achievement. You can speed this up by having two of the enemy players be Medics healing two others, thus getting them assist dominations (which are equally valid).
Tip: They can be your nemesis too, just as long as they are also your teammate’s nemesis.
Show Trial
Kill an enemy with a taunt.
To get this one normally, you must follow pretty much the same strategy as aรย Pyro’s OMGWTFBBQ achievement. Sneak up on a Sniper that is standing still and taunt with plain fists out. This taunt has a slightly longer range than the Pyro’s hadoken and triggers faster, but you aren’t exactly sneaky. So be careful.
To farm this achievement, get a friend to stand near you. Select the shotgun and do the taunt next to him. As long as he doesn’t move, you should get the achievement.. Easy as pie! Probably the best achievement to farm, in fact.
Tip: Doesn’t work with the Sandvich.
Heavy Industry
Fire $200,000 worth of minigun rounds in a single life.
This one is exactly the same farming and regular, so I’ll just cover it in a single paragraph. Despite the terminology, it’s actually one of the easiest achievements to get. You just may wonder what constitutes $200k. Basically, you have to fire 1000 rounds in a single life. This achievement comes from theรย Meet the Heavy video, which explains the cost of the bullet. To keep track of how far away you are from getting the achievement, it is suggested that you just stay in the spawn, shooting all your rounds, then running into a cabinet once empty. 4 cabinet runs should cover it.
Tip: You won’t get the achievement until you die.
Five Second Plan
Kill an enemy in the first 5 seconds after you exit a teleporter.
This one is pretty much just pure luck as to whether or not you can get it in normal play. The gist of the situation, though, has to be like this: you must enter a teleporter that leads to an Engineer’s set-up that is currently under attack while spinning your minigun. As soon as you exit, you start attacking. Best palce to do this is the sewers in 2fort.
To farm this one, get a Scout and a friendly Engineer to help you out. Have the Engineer build his teleporters next to each other, rev up your gun, enter and exit, and kill the scout. Can also be done with Natascha, which will count towards your Don’t Touch Sandvich achievement.
Tip: It is highly suggested that you enter a teleporter spun up, as it takes a good full second to spin up.
Photostroika
Provide an enemy with a freezecam shot of you taunting while invulnerable.
This one is pretty silly, but completely possible in normal play. During a base assault, have a friendly Medic รยผber you. After you are รยผbered, go on a rampage. As soon as you kill an enemy with any weapon, do a taunt. With any luck, the freezecam will catch you before the รยผber wears off, giving you the achievement easily. If not, try again.
Much like doing it normally, farming involves killing an enemy and taunting while รยผber. However, it is suggested that you kill the enemy in such a way that it snags you another achievement. For example, if you land an uppercut with your fists, you will get the Communist Mani-fisto achievement. Feel free to try out any others (such as Borscht Belt) that may fit the occasion.
Tip: You must still be invulnerable as the freezecam occurs. If you killed while invulnerable, and it wears off right before the freezecam triggers, you won’t get the achievement. Also, you must be รยผbered by the medigun.
Konspicuous Konsumption
Eat 100 sandviches.
This one is yet another silly achievement and pretty much serves the same purpose in normal and farming. However, the situation differs slightly. In normal, just take the Sandvich with you on assaults and eat it when you are hurt and a Medic isn’t nearby (as normally intended). This allows you to fill your role and work on the achievement. To farm it, just sit in the spawn and eat Sandvich after Sandvich. Keep in mind, though, that it takes 4 seconds to eat a Sandvich, meaning that overall, you must spend 400 seconds eating Sandviches (which comes out to 6 minutes and 40 seconds).
Tips: Obviously, you must have the Sandvich to do this achievement. You can get it by obtaining 10 achievements.
Don’t Touch Sandvich
Kill 50 Scouts using Natascha.
A reference to theรย Meet the Scout video, Don’t Touch the Sandvich is another achievement that requires an unlock, in this case the Natascha, which you get for obtaining 15 achievements. To get it through normal play, equip the Natascha and play a defensive Heavy, defending your flag or cap point. As it slows Scouts down, it should be much easier to kill them. So do so. After 50 go down, you get the achievement.
To farm this, get a whole enemy team of Scouts, a dispenser, and the Natascha, and just unload on them. Obviously, they must be willing to sacrifice themselves to your cause. If you don’t already have it, this is a great achievement to grind with Big Pharama and Division of Labor, given the amount of killing you plan to do.
Tip: The Natascha deals 25% less damage, so keep that in mind.
Borscht Belt
Kill 10 heavies with The K.G.B.
The final achievement of our guide, and the one which requires the most effort! Not to farm or to get normally, but because in order to get this achievement, you must already have the K.G.B., which requires 22 achievements to obtain. To do it normally, just surprise enemy Heavies and beat them down, preferably with Medic back-up for you. Even better is if there is another Heavy nearby, as the guaranteed criticals make it much easier to kill him and continue the chain.
To farm this, just get a bunch of friends to play opposing Heavies. Whip out your K.G.B and go through them like a hot knife through butter. After 10 fall, you will snag your coveted achievement. We hope it was worth all the effort of getting the K.G.B.
Tip: Remember that the K.G.B. gives 5 seconds of solid criticals after landing a killing blow.
