So here’s our sixth Team Fortress 2 achievement guide. Now we have the Spy achievement list (which is really hard to do if you ask me) so you gotta have all your wits on this one. And again, a big thank you to Big Downloads for the guide!
A Cut Above
Kill a gun-wielding Spy with your knife.
An interesting achievement, to say the least. Simply put, eliminate an enemy Spy that is using a gun by stabbing him. Backstab, facestab, or just plain stabbing will all do, as long as you do it with your knife. The easiest method to garner this achievement is to stealth and find another Spy that is using an Ambassador revolver. Due to the long range and headshot capabilities of the Ambassador, a Spy with it is more likely to go in guns a blazing rather than engage in knife-based subterfuge. Stab him and viola! But really, all you need is an uncloaked Spy wielding a knife with his back to you.
To farm this, get a friend to play a Spy. Have your friend select the revolver, and then come close to you to let themselves get backstabbed. Then backstab them! Viola, instant achievement. If they do not have the achievement either, it may be kind to reciprocate the favor and let them backstab you while you wield the revolver.
Note: It is probably obvious, given the normal technique, but both the standard revolver and the Ambassador are eligible for this achievement. Any other weapon that the enemy Spy is currently losing is not.
Agent Provocateur
Backstab your Steam Community friends 10 times.
This one is a fun one. Its goal is exactly as it states, and they have to be your Steam friends at the time which you stab them. In other words, stabbing people that you have invited to be your friend will not count. The simplest way to do this normally is to just play public games with your friends! You will inevitably get the required number of backstabs after a time. For added hilarity. Play on a server that is populated entirely by your Steam friends!
To farm this one, all you need is one friend that is willing to die over and over, much like the other achievements in this list. Simply backstab him 10 times (consecutively or otherwise) and you get the achievement! Once again, it is kind to let him repeat the process on you to get the achievement. It is relatively painless, especially with instant respawn servers.
Note: An interesting addendum to this achievement is the meaning of agent provocateur, which is that of an undercover operative that is used to instigate individuals or groups to dissent with the group overall or commit a crime for which they can be arrested. In this particular case, you are irritating your friends!
Burn Notice
Survive 30 seconds after being ignited while cloaked.
One of the harder achievements, this one involves managing to stay alive after being set on fire while cloaked. However, funnily enough, this does not mean that you have to be on fire the whole time. Rather, the achievement is simply about catching on fire and then surviving 30 seconds, on fire or not. The easiest way to get this achievement is to stay near the bridge in 2fort and let a Pyro set you on fire. Then leap into the water and disappear! The alternative is to seek out a Medic or health pack to remove the flames. Either way, get away from the Pyro fast!
To farm this achievement, simply have a Pyro friend set you on fire after you cloak. Decloak and immediately seek out water or a health pack. Then wait around for 30 seconds! Viola, you have recieved your achievement. It might be a kind courtesy to let the Pyro continue setting you alight, as it is a pyro achievement to set cloaked Spies on fire 5 times.
Note: The achievement name, Burn Notice, comes from an espionage term where an agency issues a notice called a “burn notice” where it says that one of its spies has become unreliable. In this case, the spy is “black-listed.” Perhaps the most notable use of this term is in the USA Network drama series Burn Notice.
Come in From the Cold
Get a Revenge kill with a backstab.
Chances are the majority of players will get this achievement with little to now effort, as long as they love backstabbing! The only requirement is to kill a nemesis with a backstab. Simple enough! The problem, however, is that if an enemy is your nemesis, it means they have already killed you several times without you killing them. Ouch. Nevertheless, you should get this easily through normal play. Just play a lot. A great double whammy is to backstab a medic nemesis ready to deploy his über, thus netting you Dr. Nooooo as well.
To farm this, have a friend repeatedly kill you until they get the nemesis status applied to them. Then, backstab them! Easy enough. This is a great achievement to work on in tandem with Counter Espionage or A Cut Above, as you can backstab an enemy Spy who is your nemesis that is disguised or wielding a revolver, respectively. As always, return the favor!
Note: The idiom Come in From the Cold refers to returning to something after a long time. In this case, it is backstabbing the aprticular enemy that is your nemesis!
Constructus Interruptus
Kill an Engineer who is working on a sentry.
A relatively hard achievement, this involves killing an Engineer as he is upgrading or repairing his sentry. In other words, it is basically a suicide mission. Most sentry guns will have a dispenser near them to heal and rearm the Engineer working on it, making long-range elimination extremely improbable unless the Spy in question gets a headshot with the Ambassador. So run up, backstab the Engineer as they work, and watch yourself get promptly gibbed!
To farm this, have a friend deploy a sentry gun as an Engineer. Then have them work on upgrading it as you stand out of range of the gun. While they are upgrading, chip away at them with your revolver. Once they die, you net the achievement and don’t even have to die! It does not matter whether or not the sentry is fully upgraded, armed, or repaired, so long as the Engineer is hitting it with his wrench
Note: This achievement has a distinctly… sexual reference. It refers to coitus interruptus, which is best left undescribed here. We aren’t a sex blog! This is a PC games site! Regardless, if you are curious as to the term, Wikipedia has a good article.
Counter Espionage
Backstab a disguised Spy.
This achievement may be hard to get in normal play, as chances are by the time you find a disguised Spy, he will be in place to kill you or your teammates. The easiest way, therefore, is to wait until you see an enemy Spy disguising and he does not see you. The Cloak and Dagger is perfect for this sort of intellgience gathering. Then simply sneak up on him and backstab! Instant achievement. The other method, which is usually completely on accident, is when you run into a disguised Spy (disguised enemies have collision, unlike regular allies). Do a quick circle around and backstab!
To farm this achievement, have a friend play as a Spy and disguise as one of your teammates. Then backstab him. Simple and effective. This achievement goes well with Com In From The Cold and A Cut Above, for obvious reasons. You may also try farming it with the May I Cut In? achievement, as that achievement does not require a Medic and Heavy pair in order to pull off.
Note: The achievement gets its name from the act of placing one spy to track down another. Using spies to catch other spies is known as counter-espionage, and is a widely used tactic in the intelligence community.
Deep Undercover
While using the Cloak and Dagger, kill the same enemy 3 times, all within the same area in a single life.
Naturally, to acquire this achievement you must have unlocked the Cloak and Dagger, which can only be obtained through random chance. A simple achievement if you think about it. Find the areas where Snipers sit and wait in ambush. When they are too busy caught up in sniping your friends, kill them! The “area” defined by the achievement is not specific, but is roughly equivalent to the 2fort balconies or the lobby of well.
To farm this achievement, equip the Cloak and Dagger and wait near the enemy spawn. have a friend pop out. Backstab him 3 times without dying, which should net you the achievement as well as a domination. Naturally, this achievement goes well with any other achievement that requires you to be somewhere specific, such as Is It Safe?. This is the only achievement that requires the use of the Cloak and Dagger.
Note: While you must have the Cloak and Dagger equipped, you are not required to be using it to get the achievement. In other words, as long as it is on you and you kill the same guy in the same place 3 times in a single life, you will get the achievement. You don’t have to cloak or backstab.
Die Another Way
Kill a Sniper after your backstab breaks his Razorback.
This one sort of relies on your enemy having a Razorback. However, it is easy to note if they do indeed have a Razorback, as it is clearly visible on the back of the SNiper wearing it. Simply attempt a backstab on an enemy Sniper, breaking the Razorback and making you unable to use your knife. Then pull out your gun and cap him. You’ll have to be fast, however, as the Sniper will definitely notice!
To farm this, you’ll need a friend with the Razorback, which is easier said than done. Then have the friend stand still as you promptly break the Razorbeak and then shoot him in the face. Viola, instant achievement! Alternatively, you can wait until your knife cools down and then get the achievement through a backstab. Either way works, but the gun method is faster, and we assume you want to get back to playing!
Note: This achievement’s title is in reference to the James Bond movie Die Another Day, which was the 20th James Bond movie as well as the last one to star Pierce Brosnan.
Diplomacy
Kill 50 enemies with the Ambassador.
An obvious parody of the fact that the Spy revolver replacement is called the Ambassador, this achievement is a simple grind that you can only do if you have the Ambassador unlocked through sheer luck. Once it is unlocked, equip it and use it. Once you net 50 kills, you’ll get the achievement. The farm is exactly the same, only find a friend willing to die 50 times for you to get the achievement. It is highly suggested that you do not bother to farm this, as you will spend a lot of time doing so, and that is, frankly, pretty boring.
Note: Both headshots and body kills count with the Ambassador. They also have to be kills, not assists, although someone else can assist you.
Dr. Nooooo
Backstab a Medic that is ready to deploy an übercharge.
This achievement is much easier than it would appear. All you really have to do is sneak up on a Medic that has stayed alive for quite a while. Chances are they will have an übercharge ready to use on one of their comrades. Simply bathe your knife in their blood, and the achievement is yours! Note that Kritzkrieg and Medigun über both count towards this achievement. Make sure that you catch the Medic off-guard, otherwise he may activate the über and deny you your achievement.
To get this achievement, have two friends play as a Medic and a Demoman. Have them Medic heal the Demoman as he continues to blast himself up with pipe bombs. Once the medic gets the über, backstab him to net yourself another nice little achievement. You might work on this achievement with one of the Medic farm achievements, or even FYI I Am A Spy.
Note: In much the same way that Die Another Way is named after a James Bond movie, Dr. Nooooo is named after one as well. However, Dr. No was the first James Bond movie, not the 20th, and starred the irreplaceable Sean Connery rather than Pierce Brosnan.
For Your Eyes Only
Provide an enemy with a freezecam shot of you flicking a cigarette onto their corpse.
Possibly one of the hardest freezecam shots to pull off, you will need a quick finger to pull this off after getting a kill. The farming and normal methods are the same, it only matters if the subject is willing or not. Sneak up on an enemy and backstab them. Then, immediately switch to the disguise kit and taunt. With any luck, you will get the achievement. The timing is incredibly difficult, so you may have to do it multiple times to registers. Also note that there is a “crab spy” taunt as well, and this will definitely not count towards the achievement. It is random whether or not you flick a cigarette or doing the crab spy, unfortunately.
Note: You do not have to actually see the enemy corpse in the picture, just the Spy flicking the cigarette onto it. Furthermore, you don’t have to backstab, but it works easier if you do backstab, as the body will fall forward just right and switching to the disguise kit after a backstab is the easiest thing in the world
FYI I am a Spy
Backstab a Medic who has healed you in the last 5 seconds.
A hilarious achievement, this has you tricking an enemy Medic into healing you (which is the goal of another, general, achievement) and then turning around and stabbing him almost immediately afterward. It is very hard to trick good Medics into healing a Spy, so you will either have to be a really good Spy or find a really dumb Medic to pull this achievement off normally. Once you are set up for the heal, wait until the Medic’s attention is diverted and then backstab him. Achievement got!
To farm this achievement, you’ll need a friend to play an enemy Medic. Then, you should disguise as another class. We suggest a Medic, as then you can easily obtain Identity Theft as well as FYI I am a Spy. Get healed, turn around, backstab your buddy. As he should be in your friends list, you will probably also get progress towards Agent Provocateur as well.
Note: Infamously taken from this video which made the rounds in the TF2 community before the first expansion hybrid update was released. The Medic achievements have their own version, named (funnily enough) “FYI I Am A Medic”. Good times with classic TF2 gameplay.
High Value Target
Backstab an enemy who is dominating 3 or more of your teammates.
Possibly one of the hardest achievements, period. The amount of skill necessary to get a backstab on somebody with three dominations is hard in of itself. But what about them actually getting the dominations? It’s fairly hard to get that many dominations without one of them killing you. The best class to look to kill for this achievement, however, is the Engineer, as the Engineer can get plenty of dominations with a well-placed and well-maintained sentry. Simply find the Engineer that the sentry belongs to and backstab him. Also, one of the people that is being dominated by the target can be you, leading into Come In From The Cold.
To farm this achievement, you will need at least 8 friends all willing to help out. Have one friend kill your team repeatedly until he has three or more dominations. Then run up and backstab him. Achievements that this goes well with are Agent Provocateur, Counter Espionage, and Come In From The COld, so keep that in mind as you begin your farm.
Note: A high value target is any person or object that has had a significant bounty placed upon it, either in money or in strategic worth. For example, the leader of a country’s special operations school could possibly be considered an HVT. Or maybe a terrorist with a string of bombings that have injured and killed many.
Identity Theft
Backstab the enemy that you’re currently disguised as.
This one is fun! It’s both easy, as if you are near the enemy whose name you have, people won’t pay any heed, and hard, as the person whose guise you have stolen definitely will. The easiest place to do this is on the balcony of 2fort, where you can disguise as a Sniper and backstab the one you are disguised as. Granted, you will probably die shortly afterwards, but hey, at least you got the achievement! Other good targets are Medics and Engineers. Steer clear of Scouts and Pyros, as the speed and spy checks (respectively) will thwart your attempts.
To farm this one, have a friend play as a Spy, disguise as an enemy Spy (AKA you), equip the revolver, and turn his back to you. Plant that knife firmly between those shoulderblades, and you have yourself an achievement! The reason you should do all the other activities is that they lead into other achievements, such as Counter Espionage or A Cut Above. And people love to get several achievements at once!
Note: The backstab has to be the one that takes you out of the disguise. If you attempt a backstab and fail, you can’t get the achievement just because that enemy was your last disguise. You actually have to reveal yourself as not being him to get this achievement.
Insurance Fraud
Kill an enemy while you’re being healed by an enemy Medic.
An achievement along the lines of FYI I am a Spy, this one can also be prohibitively hard thanks to the paranoid nature of Medics. However, if you do find a Medic healing you, take advantage of it right away! Backstab an enemy Heavy (especially if disguised as that Heavy, thanks to Identity Theft) and then swiftly backstab either his healing medic (for May I Cut In?) or your own healing Medic (for FYI I am a Spy). Overall, if you find yourself being healed by an enemy Medic, take advantage of it!
To farm this achievement, get two friends on the opposite team and have one play Medic while the other plays Heavy. Then disguise as the Heavy, backstab the Heavy while being healed, and then backstab your own Medic. Viola, you have just acquired three achievements: Insurance Fraud, Identity Theft, and FYI I am a Spy. Great job!
Is It Safe?
Backstab 50 enemies who are capturing control points.
A fun achievement, this one has you playing the role as defense and offense in the same breath. Since you must kill 50 enemies on the control points, this achievement is not one that you can really farm. The most effective tactics to work towards this achievement is to cloak and disguise, get way behind enemy lines, and then join in with a group heading towards a control point behind their backs. As they begin capturing, stab them all to death. With any luck, you will get anywhere from one to five kills towards this achievement. It’s a good achievement to work on in tandem with Deep Undercover, as that achievement has you sticking to one place for an extended period of time.
Note: The group of achievements in this part of the guide are very similar in that several of them have to do with control points. However, they are the only achievements to involve control points in this entire list. Great!
Joint Operation
Sap an enemy sentry within 3 seconds of a teammate sapping another.
Quite possibly the only achievement on this list that requires actual teamwork, this achievement is an easy, albeit rare, one to pull off. You will need somebody that can coordinate with you to plant sappers on the sentries, as well as two sentries that are reasonably close together. Watch for your fellow Spy to plant his sapper, and then plant your sapper as well. Not that you do not actually have to destroy the gun, you only have to place the sapper on it within 3 seconds of a Spy placing a saper on another enemy sentry.
To farm this achievement, have three friends join you in a sevrer: two Engineers on the enemy team and one Spy on your team. Have the Engineers set up next to each other, and as they do that, disguise yourselves. Then sap the sentries at the same time! You may also consider backstabbing the Engineers for Identity Theft (if you are disguised as one) or Sapsucker (for sapping their gun then backstabbing them).
Note: You have to sap a sentry, not a dispenser. Therefore, the enemy team must have two Engineers, both with built sentries and preferably close by so that you can time your sappers close to one another. However, there is no range limit for this achievement.
May I Cut In?
Backstab an enemy and the Medic healing him within 10 seconds of each other.
A very easy achievement for almost any Spy, this one traditionally has you breaking up the classic Medic and Heavy pair through liberal use of your knife. To easiest way to do this is the standard infiltration: get behind enemy lines, decloak and disguise while out of sight, then run up behind enemy players and start the slaughter. Kill a Medic and his target, and you’ve netted yourself another achievement!
To farm this one, you’ll need two friends on the enemy team. have the Medic heal the other one, then backstab them both one right after the other. Like almost all of the achievements on this list, this one goes well with others, such as FYI I Am A Spy and Insurance Fraud.
Note: Your backstab is always an instant kill, so if you accidentally facestab (get a backstab from the front; a rare occurance) you will still get credit. Furthermore, you do not have to kill the Medic or his target in any aprticular order, as long as they are backstabbed within 10 seconds of each other.
On Her Majesty’s Secret Surface
Start capping a capture point within a second of it becoming available.
Another easy or hard achievement, depending on the server you are playing on, map that is chosen, and team you are with. In short, you will need to be on the final point, decloaked and disguised, as your team captures the preceding point. Once they nap the point immediately before the one you are on, it should open up to capture. Slice your knife in mid-air to remove your disguise and start capturing the point.
Farming, funnily enough, can be done in the “waiting for other players” pre-round on an empty server. Get a friend to join your team (server needs to not have team auto-balance) and have him begin capturing a point. As it captures, run to the next, locked point. As soon as the point unlocks, you will start capturing it and the achievement will be acquired!
Note: Much like several of the other Spy achievements, this one references a famous spy-oriented piece of media. In this case, it reference On Her Majesty’s Secret Surface, which was the only James Bond film to star George Lazenby in the titular role.
Point Breaker
Kill 15 enemies who are standing on a control point they own.
This achievement, much like Is It Safe?, is not an achievement that you will want to farm. This is because it will probably be acquired through normal play, and so farming will be a waste of time. The tactics for this achievement are fairly simple, but require a clean sweep in order to be effective: you must start behind enemy lines, take out any Snipers guarding the control point, then backstab anybody sitting on the point proper. Once you pull off 15 kills one one of these points, you’ll get the achievement. The other possible method is to engage in a melee on enemy points, with (hopefully) your knife meeting the back of those you are attacking.
Note: The name of this achievement is a possible allusion to Moonraker, which is yet another James Bond film and one of the most popular films in the franchise.
Sap Auteur
Destroy 1000 Engineer buildings with sappers.
Do not farm this achievement. This is a common theme for the achievements in this part of the guide, but this achievement especially. This is not an achievement that you want to farm purely because it will take so long. 1000 buildings destroyed by sappers? That’s ridiculously long! Much like Chief of Staff for the Medic, this is an achievement that you will need to earn through normal play, not by farming. Simply play the Spy and sap lots of enemy builds while preventing them from removing the sapper. Once you rack up 1000 building kills, you will get the achievement.
Note: You can damage the building with your pistol or knife and then sap it, if you wish. However, if you sap a building and it is then destroyed by something else, such as a rocket or gunfire, you will not get the achievement. The kill has to be through the sapper dealing enough damage to destroy it.
Sapsucker
Sap an enemy building, then backstab the Engineer who built it within 5 seconds.
A fun achievement, this is one of the most common Spy achievements for all Spies, new and old, to get. The reason for this is that the sapping and backstab combo is one of the most effective in the Spy arsenal. Sap a building, and while the Engineer is busy trying to remove the sapper, backstab him. Achievement got! You have to do this while the Engineer is around, however. The easiest place to do this is near the respawn room in 2fort and the flag room (or final control point) in Well.
To farm this achievement, have a friend play Engineer and build everything. Sentry, dispenser, and both teleporters, preferably all right next to each other. Sap his sentry, then backstab him, then sap the rest of his buildings. The reason for this is that it will net you both Sapsucker as well as The Man with the Broken Guns. It will also help you along towards the massive Sap Auteur achievement. You can also attempt to do both achievements at once in normal gameplay, but don’t say we didn’t warn you!
Note: You do not have to destroy the buildings with your sapper. You only have to get the sapper placed. You can even let the Engineer remove the sapper and then backstab him, for extra hilarity. We do not recommend doing this for a sentry, however, as you will die. Also, any building works, including dispensers and the two teleporter types (entrance and exit).
Skullpluggery
Headshot 20 Snipers with the Ambassador.
Whoops! Gotta have the Ambassador for this achievement! Once you have it, equip it and simply play as a pseudo-Sniper in the balconies of 2fort. As you can not zoom, you may be at a disadvantage, so you may also consider just cloaking, heading over to the enemy balcony, decloaking, and capping every Sniper there. Since you get headshots just like they do, it’ll be easy to clear the balcony, cloak, and escape before their friends show up. Because of the fact that you have to kill 20 Snipers, it is not recommended that you bother farming this achievement. After all, you don’t have to get them all consecutively or in the same life! Thank god.
Note: A pun off of the word skullduggery, which is a common word used to describe espionage, especially the kind that involves violence, such as assassinations or sabotage.
Slash and Burn
Backstab an enemy, who then switches to Pyro before they respawn.
A hilarious achievement that involves an enemy being so upset by your backstabbing that they switch to the Pyro class before respawning specifically to stop you. As is, there is no way you can control what an enemy player will do, so there is no way you can strive for this “normally” besides backstabbing lots of enemies! Farming it is much easier, as your friend can take a backstab, switch to Pyro, and you suddenly have the achievement! There’s not many achievements that go well with this one for farming, so pick and choose any achievement with backstabs to work on in tandem. May we suggest Triplecrossed?
Note: Naturally, due to the respawn limit placed upon the achievement, this achievement is almost impossible on instant respawn servers. So don’t bother trying to get it there.
Sleeper Agent
Kill an enemy who triggered your feign death in the last 20 seconds.
Naturally, you must have the Dead Ringer in order to get this achievement, so either get it through achievements or random drops. Once you have this device, feel free to use it! This achievement will probably be the first one you get after getting the Dead Ringer, thanks in part to the fact that it is the whole reason the Dead Ringer exists! Simply let yourself be hit, decloak, and backstab the offender. Instant achievement, just for you! The best place to do this is in 2fort on the balcony, as you can get hit by an enemy Sniper’s kukri, feign your death, then turn around and backstab them. Also works well on control points!
To farm this achievement, simply have a friend hit you while you have the Dead Ringer equipped. You will feign death and cloak. Immediately decloak and then backstab them. Best farmed alongside backstab achievements such as May I Cut In? or Identity Theft, thanks to the necessity of the backstab after your feign death. You can also go for the intelligence after the backstab, if you wish.
Note: A sleeper agent is one that is designed to infiltrate an organization and lay in wait. Once given the signal, they will then perform one of many different actions, such as assassination or information theft.
Spies Like Us
While cloaked, bump into an enemy cloaked Spy.
This achievement is a relatively easy achievement for the Spy, as it only requires both you and your target to be cloaked. Chances are you will get this achievement on accident, thanks to the close-quarters nature of combat in most maps. Simply run around cloaked. As soon as you bump into a cloaked enemy Spy, you will net the achievement. As is, there is no point to even farm it, as it should be one of the first achievements you get. If you really want to, though, it is easily farmed with Counter Espionage, as you can have your friend disguise as a friendly and let himself get backstabbed.
Note: Both spies must be fully cloaked in order for the achievement to trigger. If either of you are paritally cloaked, it will not count. This gives you approximately a ten second window (not counting picking up ammo to replenish your cloak) to get the achievement before your cloak must recharge.
Spymaster
Backstab 1000 enemies.
Another grind achievement, this has you performing the Spy’s characteristic backstab maneuver 1000 times. Much like the other massive grind achievements, there is absolutely no point in farming this. We mean it. Just play the game. You will get credit towards this achievement when you do any of the backstab achievements, but there is no point in sitting there and backstabbing a friend 1000 times. That’s just silly! If you need the new gear so bad, just get some of the other, less grinding achievements. We promise that if you just play the game and backstab people for this achievement, you will enjoy it more. After all, nobody likes to sit in one place for hours in a first-person shooter. That’s strictly relegated to strategy and massively multiplayer online game territories!
The Man from P.U.N.C.T.U.R.E.
Stab an enemy while fencing.
Seems like everybody is getting one of these fancy kill taunts, doesn’t it? The Spy’s taunt with the knife is now a killing taunt much like the others, and has a decent range to boot. To get the achievement, head to the enemy balcony in 2fort. Assuming nobody is around, stand next to a Sniper and taunt with your knife equipped. With any luck, you’ll stab him and net yourself the achievement. However, it does have a long start time, much like the other kill taunts, so be wary of other players. You can’t stop mid-taunt, after all. Farming this achievement is much the same, except have a friend stand still for you. As this is a taunt achievement, you can not attempt it alongside any other achievements. This is the only achievement that will net you anything from the kill taunt.
Note: Note that it is not the first two stabs that will net you this achievement, but the third and final stab, which is an instant kill for anyone unlucky enough to be in the crossfire. Also, the achievement name is a not-so-subtle nod to the famous spy television series The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
The Man with the Broken Guns
Backstab an Engineer, then sap 3 of his buildings within 10 seconds.
A difficult achievement for the unaccomplished Spy, this one requires you to possibly expose yourself to a sentry gun before spaping it, which is always a dangerous state of affairs. The best way to do it is to backstab the engineer, strafe with the rotation of the turret, and plant the sapper. With the turret down, you can go ahead and sap the other nearby buildings. In order to get the achievement, you must sap any combination of the four buildings. For practical purposes, it will probably end up being sentry, dispenser, and teleporter exit.
To get this achievement through farming, have a friend build all four buildings in a single spot. Sap the sentry, backstab your friend, then sap the rest. You should net this achievement, Sapsucker, and credit towards the Sap Auteur achievement. This Sapsucker into The Man With The Broken Guns achievment chain is one of the only achievement chains in the game, so make good use of it, farming or otherwise.
Note: This achievement is an obvious allusion to The Man With The Golden Gun, one of the better known James Bond movies. It was the second movie to star Roger Moore, and lends its titular gun to Bond in the console game Goldeneye.
The Melbourne Supremacy
Dominate a Sniper.
For any decent Spy, this achievement will be as easy as walking. Make your way to the enemy Sniper positions and have a ball. The catch is that the Sniper can’t kill you at any point, making it necessary to get the drop on them every single time. If you manage to do this several times without dying, you will net yourself a domination and the achievement. Alternatively, instead of backstabs, you can get headshots with the Ambassador. Good luck with that, though. Trying to out headshot a Sniper is like playing chicken with a nuclear bomb.
To farm this achievement, have your friend stand still while you stab him over and over until he is dominated. Instant achievement! Goes best with Die Another Way, Skullpluggery, and Identity Theft, for obvious reasons. Keep in mind that you can always let him kill you afterward for one of his achievements. It’s only fair, after all!
Note: You can be dominating the Sniper through any method, including assists. The name of this achievement is a nod to the book (and movie adaptation) The Bourne Supremacy by Robert Ludlum, which is the second in the highly-regarded Bourne spy fiction series.
Triplecrossed
Backstab 3 Snipers in a single life.
A great achievement to get, and also an easy one, given the right map. The map in question is, of course, 2fort, thanks to the set-up of the balcony. Head up through the enemy base until you are coming in through the balcony entrance. There should be two or three Snipers sitting there and shooting. Take out your knife, and bam bam bam, you have the achievement. Especially easy there considering the radius of the backstab (180 degrees behind the Sniper) and the layout. Most Snipers just stand in a line! In fact, you could even get You only Shiv Thrice by doing it this way.
To farm this achievement, have up to three friends be Snipers. The reason for three friends is so that you can arrange You Only Shive Thrice, if you want. You can do it with only one, though. Have your friend(s) stand still while you do your thing. With one friend, you will get Melbourne Supremacy (as you will dominate the Sniper) and with three friends you will get You Only Shiv Thrice.
Note: You have to get all three backstabs without dying, as the achievement says. However, they do not have to be in order, or even remotely close in time to each other. Just three Sniper backstabs without dying.
Wetwork
Stab an enemy to death while under the influence of Jarate.
This one is one of the hardest achievement in the entire pack. Why, might you ask? Well, Jarate shorts out your cloak and exposes you as a Spy. Chances are tha tthe Sniper knows you are a Spy and will be chasing you down with one of his weapons to kill you after smashing the jar of piss all over your face. So what do you do? Well, you can try and outmanuever the Sniper, but you will probably die to the Kukri. The best method to obtain this is to simply turn around and backstab somebody else! You don’t have to backstab the Sniper that hit you. You can do anyone, as long as you have been affected by Jarate.
To farm this, have a friend splash you with Jarate. Then backstab him. You might have him splash you again while you are cloaked and let him kill you with his Kukri afterward for the achievements Jarring Transition and Jarate Chop. There’s no real achievement you can farm alongside this one, unfortunately.
Note: You must be coated in the urine of a Sniper in order to get this achievement. That means you can’t jump in water to wash it off before stabbing somebody. This achievement is also a reference to the term “wetwork”, which is a euphemism meaning “assassination”.
Who’s Your Daddy?
Headshot 3 Scouts with the Ambassador.
This achievement, much like Wetwork, is relatively hard as well. It is difficult enough to headshot Scouts as a Sniper, so you can imagine what it must be like to try and get it with the Ambassador. Our only suggestion is to simply shoot at Scouts and don’t bother trying to get this achievement except by luck. Scouts move far to fast and deal way too much damage to you to engage head on, and the Ambassador doesn’t have good range compared to the Sniper Rifle.
To farm this achievement, get your friend to stand still and do a standard double-tap: one shot to the torso and one shot to the head. The shot to the torso weakens the Scout enough that the single shot to the head will take him out. Unfortunately, this achievement can not be farmed with other achievements, as it is the only achievement that involves Scouts or headshots of somebody besides Snipers.
Note: This achievement is a hilarious reference to the Meet the Spy video, where it was revealed that the Spy had seduced and had sex with the Scout’s mother. To add insult to injury, the Spy fell in love!
You Only Shiv Thrice
Backstab 3 enemies within 10 seconds.
Another exceedingly easy achievement, this one has you performing a quick succession of backstabs. The easiest way to do this is to get behind a large enemy group, disguise and decloak, and run forward. As soon as you are in the thick of things, start backstabbing. If the group was sufficiently large enough, you’ll get the achievement without issue! You can also attempt this with a batch of Snipers hiding in battlements, if you want. Make sure they are reasonably close to each other, though.
Farming this achievement functions exactly the same way as Triplecrossed. Get three friends, preferably Snipers, and have them all stand in a line as you backstab them in quick succession. You will net yourself Triplecrossed! Alternatively, have two friends be Medics, one be a Heavy, and have each of them heal one of you (one Medic on the Heavy, other on you). Disguise as a Medic, backstab the Medic and Heavy pair, and then backstab your own Medic. Identity Theft, Insurance Fraud, FYI I am a Spy, May I Cut In?, and You Only Shiv Thrice all at once! It’s a great chain.
Note: The name of this achievement is another obvious James Bond reference. In this case, it is to You Only Live Twice, the second to last Bond film to star the original actor Sean Connery.
