Nikki Tan is a multi-awarded cosplayer and has graced Philippine media representing the cosplaying craft and local otaku cultures. Some of her
awards are:
- GX-Con 2007 (Group Cosplay 2nd Place Winner) – Resident Evil 4 Group
- Cosplay Mania X 2010 (Solo Cosplay Best Video Game Category Winner) – Rathalos Female Blade Master
- Hero Face Off 2010 (Solo Cosplay Grand Winner) – Rathalos Female Blade Master
- Hero TV Special Episode 2010 (Hero vs Hero Winner) – Rathalos Female Blade Master
- Cosplay Costume of the Year 2010 (Runner up) – Rathalos Female Blade Master
- STGCC 2011 (Singapore Toys Gaming and Comic book Convention) Kipi Prize – Dark Akantor Blade Master
She is also a recurring judge for prestigious cosplay competitions such as Tournament of Champions and a member of the awesome cosplay group
M.A.R.C.H. Philippines. Here is a little interview to get to know her better.
B2G: What makes you cosplay a video game character?
Nikki: I started playing video games way back when I was just a kid ~ from Family Computer, Super NES, Gameboy, Sega Mega Drive 2, Play Station,
PS1, PS2, PSP,(PC Games, MMORPG’s) Nintendo DS Lite and hopefully Nintendo 3DS XL in the near future. I could actually say that I am very
much inclined with gaming and my gaming experience influenced me a lot to cosplay my favorite video game characters. As you can see most of my
cosplays are characters from video games mainly because of this reason.
B2G: What are some of your favorite game character cosplay?
Nikki: Of course my monster hunter armors: rathalos and dark akantor blade master set. I will always love my rathalos blade master set because it was my first armored cosplay, first costume that we hand crafted together and simply because I am an avid fan of the monster hunter series … I love the game so much! I could still remember playing monster hunter portable way back 2008 and now I can’t really express how excited I am for monster hunter 3 ultimate!!!
B2G: Which game characters can you relate the most or is most similar to you?
Nikki: That could only be Selphie Tilmitt!!! As far as I could remember I cosplayed her for UP Student Summit 2009. Well, the two of us are so much
alike in many ways; we’re outspoken, active and energetic. Like Sephie, I am also childish, upbeat and hyperactive at times, but what really made her
special to me is that she never failed her friends…she even proved herself with the help of her talent with vehicles and computers.
B2G: Future game cosplans or wishlists?
Niki: Oh! I have so many in mind!!! I wish to cosplay Rinoa Heartily(ff8), Female Mechanic (PRO), Female Jinouga Blade master set (Monster Hunter Portable 3rd) Lady (DMC3), Songstress Lenne (FFX-2), Haruka Amami (THE iDOLM@STER), Claire Redfield (RE:The Dark Side Chronicles), Tifa Lockhart(FF VII), Quest Receptionist Cathy (Monster Hunter Tri G) Mio Amakura (Fatal Frame II:Crimson Butterfly) gyaaaaah my list would go on and on .
B2G: What Video games are you playing now?
Nikki: Still currently playing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, and tons of android games hahahaha!! XD
