Having an IT certification from the renowned vendors makes a great first impression when you are looking for a job. If you are just starting your journey in the IT industry, the CompTIA A+ certificate is exactly what you need.

CompTIA A+ is an entry-level certification that validates the knowledge and skills of the individuals needed for the majority of entry-level IT jobs. This certificate equips them with the sufficient competency to perform the troubleshooting and problem-solving processes of various issues, ranging from operating and networking systems to mobile devices and security. In this article, we will take a quick look at what this certification is about as well as what career prospects are associated with it.

What Do You Need to Know to Get CompTIA A+ Certification?

The CompTIA A+ certification is earned by passing a set of two exams: CompTIA 220-1001 (Core 1) and CompTIA 220-1002 (Core 2). These qualifying tests are 90 minutes long and consist of 90 questions. The formats that the individuals encounter during their exam include multiple choice (single & multiple response), drag and drop, and performance-based . The tests are delivered either online or at the authorized centers by the official CompTIA partner, Pearson VUE. The candidates can choose the preferred language of the exam delivery from available options, such as English, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Thai. To schedule the test, each applicant is required to pay the registration fee of $232 per exam. It is recommended that the students pursuing CompTIA A+ have 9 to 12 months of practical experience in the lab or field.

What Positions Can You Fill In After Obtaining CompTIA A+ Certification?

Unlike other IT certificates, many of which only require covering one domain, CompTIA A+ covers a variety of knowledge areas required of the technicians nowadays, making the certified professionals eligible to take up many more job roles. Some of the most popular titles that the candidates can consider after getting certified are as follows: an IT Support Specialist, a Technical Support Specialist, an End-User Computing Technician, a Data Support Technician, a Service Desk Analyst, a Help Desk Tier 2 Support, a Field Service Technician, an Associate Network Engineer, a Desktop Support Administrator, and a Help Desk Technician, among others.

How Much Can You Earn with CompTIA A+ Certification?

According to ZipRecruiter.com, the average annual pay for the CompTIA A+ certification in the United States amount to $53,149. Depending on the level of your experience, location, as well as type of hiring organization, you can earn from $26,000 to $75,500 per year. The salaries also differ depending on a particular role. Thus, the median salary for a Field Service Technician is $46,000 per annum, while a Desktop Support Analyst can make on average $60,000 per year.
