TechPowerUp is reporting that AMD will be partnering up with MediaTek to offer networking solutions for motherboards in upcoming products in a new partnership that will see AMD-branded, MediaTek-developed WIFI products. With the large variety of motherboards available in the market primarily dominated by multiple players, one of which is Intel, who holds a significant amount of embedded wireless and wired solutions on motherboards. AMD wants to persuade motherboard partners to develop away from that and reduce reliance on Intel’s vPro technology amongst other with the introduction of AMD WLAN products.
The AMD RZ660 based on the MediaTek Filogic 330P will be a WIFI 6E plus BT 5.2 device and will be supported directly by AMD. Driver distribution will also be via AMD channels and will see notebooks and desktops already sporting the RZ660 by 2022. This includes consumer DIY motherboards as well, possibly for AMD’s newer CPU announcement for next year. As of now, the AMD RZ660 is primarily a WIFI product with no confirmation of an upcoming wired solution.
