AMD released FSR or FidelityFX Super Resolution to serve as an option for developers to implement on their games without going with NVIDIA’s DLSS. Its still in the early phases but more and more games are coming out with it but AMD doesn’t seem content with that and wants to push their upscaling tech further is reportedly working on a driver-level upscaling to further compete with another player in the upscaling wars; Intel’s XeSS.
AMD’s current strategy is for accelerated upscaling that is platform-agnostic which means it’ll run on any system regardless if they’re using AMD hardware which is the case for FSR. In RSR’s case, it’ll be supported on current AMD GPUs only (RDNA/RDNA2)Â and will be implemented to work on a driver-level which fixes the issues with conflicts in in-game UI menus, for example.
AMD Radeon Super Resolution could be part of AMD’s CES 2022 announcements in their January 4th keynote.
