AMD has had a monster ride towards gaining a significant enough performance leap versus Intel that the current CPU landscape has ultimately been shaped by AMD since 2017. That changed when Intel launched Alder Lake but many of what made AMD strong as a brand didn’t really stayed with the company and its brand strength has not had the same conversion in terms of equity especially in recent times where AMD seems be floundering in the desktop space.
Japanese consumer research firm BCNR published a Japanese market analysis with its latest report showing that Intel is now taking away market from AMD since mid-2021. Intel has also surpass AMD in terms of overall sales in Japan.
To corroborate the report, benchmarking utility developer and performance data repository PassMark also keeps a record of its large userbase which supports BCNR’s data.
AMD has been facing a mix of issues with with the latest generation of Ryzen CPUs lacking an entry-market option whilst also being priced higher, sparking the start of a downturn as well as alienating the original marketplace which made Ryzen thrive. This, plus a slew of many industry-related problems could be blade for AMD’s current downturn.
