It would seem that the re-emergence of a childhood icon (at least for me anyway) is but a prelude to a loss of another as GamePro finally closes it’s doors next monday, December 5, 2011. According to the Industrygamers post regarding the “death” of the game magazine.
“that the ad dollars just weren’t there, and unfortunately layoffs of staff are being implemented -“
GamePro did try to adjust with the predicament by shifting to a quarterly publication but apparently they just can’t compete anymore and had to face the music that things must move on.
GamePro media is now going to refocus its US business exclusively on its growing custom publishing and solutions business which basically means that GamePro will work on creating custom content for vendors and events, like last E3’s daily publication. As for an editorial team, it would appear that PCWorld in the US will be the focus going forward.
To be quite honest, I’m not that much of a big GamePro fan since I grew up reading EGM more than GamePro but I’ve always had a GamePro magazine in the mix of my EGMs whenever I clean up my game magazine collection.
Still with that said – thanks for the memories GamePro! May the team move on to better pastures.
