The great beauty of a superhero film nowadays is that there’s usually a game that ties in alongside it. The ability to participate in the movie itself gives us the chance to feel like Batman or the Hulk, and with consoles more powerful than ever, the realism is simply incredible.
However, since the beginning of the computer game DC and Marvel heroes have been transported from the comic book to the TV screen, creating some of the most memorable games of all time. We take a look at five of the best superhero games.
Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Although playing this too long could turn you into the Hulk, Ultimate Destruction is the finest game with the green giant and created pure on screen chaos. The game saw Bruce Banner’s alter ego beat up everyone and everything, making boxing gloves from cars as you smashed your way to saving the city.
Batman Arkham Asylum
Both the movies and the games have gone to a different level in recent years. Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan have transformed Batman into a cool, dark and enigmatic character, whilst online slots games featuring the character have become cult hits at platforms such as M88. None more so than Arkham Asylum.
Graphically superior to most on the market, it displays the vigilante at his very best, taking on Bane, the Joker, and Poison Ivy in a release which has yet to be bettered.
Ultimate Spiderman
Spiderman has had its fair share of brilliant releases with Ultimate Spiderman being just about the best. Released in 2005, the game was based on the comics of the same name and puts Peter Parker up against a host of villains including Beetle, Rhino, and the Green Goblin.
Also released was a limited edition version exclusive to PlayStation 2 which included four character biographies and a holographic case.
Injustice: Gods Among Us
Who’s better? Superman or Batman? Well thanks to Injustice you can actually find out. The story puts some of the finest comic book heroes against each other in a parallel universe that makes Metropolis look like Tellytubbyland.
Starring 30 comic book characters Injustice: Gods Among Us is a superb fighter game and has received rave reviews with some even calling for a comic book release of its own.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
Plenty different to most superhero games, the LEGO Marvel effort offers a much more fun element to the caped crusaders out to take on the world. With a free-roam option where you can make your way around a virtual New York that includes over 100 characters, there’s plenty of fun to be had, whilst the missions make sure you defeat Marvel’s biggest bad guys.
