CD-R KING Has 3D Printers *UPDATED*

BossMac SubaBy BossMac SubaNovember 22, 2013No Comments5 Mins Read

Yes you heard that right! That lovely, little shop we all eventually run down to when we need a quick pop of whatever cheap tech stuff we suddenly need… or broke. Kidding aside, CD-R King has just posted in their online catalog the availability and pricing of a 3D printer.

Little is known about the origins and specifications of this 3D printer so anyone interested should definitely know what they are dealing with. The site doesn’t list anything specific aside from the price which comes in at (GET THIS!) Php100,000. This is CD-R KING we are talking about. Anyways, basing on the price and images it can be inferred that this is a larger model compared to those popping up in other online catalogs like Sulit.

UPDATE:

A bit of snooping around the DIY 3D print community, we may have found the model of CD-R KING’s 3D printer. The 3Drag 3D Printer Kit heavily resembles the model in question with a few parts and labels having only color differences but the overall design looks the same.

UPDATE: A reader has pointed out to us that both models are referenced from the Velleman K8200 3D printing kit. The specifications are as follows:

Specifications & Features

  • Linear ball bearings: 8 and 10 mm (0.314″ and 0.393″)
  • Technology: FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) for PLA and ABS
  • Power supply: 12 V / 3 A max.
  • FTDI USB 2.0 to Serial
  • Dimensions of printable area: 20 x 20 x 20cm / 7.87 x 7.87 x 7.87″
  • Typical printing speed: 120 mm/s
  • Maximum print speed: 150 to 300 mm/s (depending on the object to be printed)
  • Extrusion nozzle: 0.5 mm
  • Extrusion thermistor: NTC 100K
  • Extruded aluminum profiles: 27.5 mm / 1.08″ wide
  • Movement: 4 NEMA 17 stepper motors
  • Resolution:
    • Nominal mechanical resolution:
      • X and Y: 0.015 mm / 590.55 µin (smallest step the printing plate can move in the X and Y direction)
      • Z: 0.781 µm / 30.74 µin(smallest step the printing plate can move in the Z direction)
    • Nominal printing resolution:
      • Wall thickness (X,Y): 0.5 mm / 0.019″
      • Layer thickness (Z): 0.20 – 0.25 mm / 0.0078 – 0.0098″
  • Dimensions:
    • Width: 50cm / 19.7″
    • Depth: 42cm / 16.5″

NOTE: CDRKING’s product page seems to suggest it includes more than just one roll of consumables.

The new 3Drag 3D printer comes from Italy and has been developed by a team led by Boris Landoni over many months. The starting point for the development was a RepRap Prusa Mendel 3D printer but with the aim improving installation with a simplified assembly process while retaining Mendel quality performance and compatibility with RepRap electronics, firmware and software for easy updates. – 3DPrintingIndustry

You can check out the Future Electronica 15 3Drag in this online store.  Specifications are as follows:

[box_info]

3D printer to print objects of maximum size of 20 x 20 x 20 cm using ABS or PLA 3mm wires. Extremely fast and precise even in prints at higher speeds. Compatible with all free software and firmware RepRap, lets you create items in plastic of any kind. Made of aluminum profiles, easy to mount. Designed and engineered to give lightness and stiffness for the suppression of vibrations and unwanted resonance. The printer uses the X / Y for printing plane and Z for the cart. This particular configuration allows to simplify the extrusion system which no longer have to move on a horizontal axis, is simply fixed to the structure that moves along the Z axis The measurements have been studied to make the printer compact and a low center of gravity, aligned with the two belts. The support for the printing plate is designed to accommodate a “tile” of vetronite which combines a good adhesion with the PLA with considerable dimensional stability. Heated plate included.

Structure:
– Extruded aluminum square 27.5 mm wide;
– Linear ball recycling ground bars 8 and 10 mm
Cart X / Y:
– Basic Plan 3mm perforated aluminum suitable for mass reduction;
– The upper floors in aluminum, from 2 mm suitably perforated to reduce the mass
Support and connection of polyoxymethylene, processed by CNC
Technology: FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) for PLA and ABS
Hot extrusion with nozzle of 0.5 mm, NTC 100K and steppers
Movement: 3 NEMA 17 stepper motors on the X / Y (printing plate) and Z (arm extruder)
Controller: Sanguinololu 1.3a or compatible
Power supply: 12V 7A max
FTDI USB 2.0 to Serial, Arduino compatible
Dimensions print: 20 x 20 x 20 cm
Medium size printing plate: 21.5 x 21.5 cm
Typical printing speed 120 mm / sec
Maximum print speed: 150 to 300 mm / sec
(depending on the object to be printed)
Nominal resolution:
– X and Y: 0.015 mm
– Z: 0.781 microns
Dimensions:
– Width 60 cm
– Depth: 43 cm
– Height: 59 cm
– Weight: 8.7 kg
The kit include all necessary to print your 3D files (power supply, 3D controll with drivers, cable, heated plate, USB cable, plate, screw… all you need)

More information can be gathered in this interview with the creator of 3Drag. Also, here’s a video for your review:

Curiously, the site lists the device for only $772 or around Php33,000…  The Velleman K8200 is available for 995USD or around Php44,000… still way below CD-R KING’s SRP. We may be looking at a larger model or the company is charging a premium for these items.

We still need to verify what exact model this is and its specifications, anyone with a tip is welcome to leave their information in the comments.

We’re not downplaying CD-R KING here or anything but something worth as much as this shouldn’t be subject to their favorite line:
