We had the opportunity to test out the just-announced HyperX Cloud III Gaming Headset at COMPUTEX 2023, HyperX’s post-Kingston big release which they coincided the announcement alongside COMPUTEX 2023.
Hands-on experience was nostalgic – coming from our experience with the Cloud line-up of yesteryears. Going by that tone, the sound quality and comfort of the Cloud III is quite an improvement from the latter releases.
This headset has everything a gamer could ask for this side of the year: powerful 53 mm drivers that deliver immersive 3D audio with DTS Headphone:X, a sleek design that matches the HyperX family of products, and a durable build that can withstand prolonged hours of gaming.
The Cloud III is truly a huge upgrade from the previous models, which were already great. The software is user-friendly, allowing you to customize the frequency response to your preference via a useful equalizer. The DAC/Amp dongle gives you more control over the volume and the mic – and also enhances the sound quality compared to some built-in setups. The look is more modern and stylish, with a black and red colorway.
I especially liked the angled drivers that created a more realistic soundstage. HyperX did their homework with spatial audio really well here which is expected with their partnership with Dolby.
The noise-cancelling mic was also impressive, as it filters out background noise and delivers clear in-game comms. The mic is detachable, so you can use the headset as a regular headphone outside gaming.
The best part is how comfortable this headset is. The HyperX memory foam ear cushions and the padded headband felt like pillows. They also provide good noise isolation, blocking out external sounds. I barely noticed I was wearing them even after hours of gaming. The headset also works with any device you have, thanks to the 3.5 mm jack, USB-C and USB-A connectors, and the handy US adapter that provides both USB-C and USB-A connectivity.
