Prior to its CES 2024 keynote in Las Vegas, Intel’s day 1 session confirmed the upcoming release of its Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake processors, scheduled for the second half of 2024. Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Client Computing Group at Intel, emphasized that the company is in the advanced stages of finalizing these new processors. Arrow Lake, an extension of the Intel Core Ultra architecture, is tailored for high-performance desktop PCs, particularly focusing on gaming. It is touted as the first gaming processor with AI capabilities, a notable advancement in the field.
On the other hand, Lunar Lake, designed for laptops, features a radically new low-power architecture with significant improvements in Instructions Per Cycle (IPC). It also promises a threefold increase in AI performance on both the GPU and the NPU compared to its predecessor, Meteor Lake. Holthaus highlighted that Lunar Lake chips are already being shipped to Intel’s partners, indicating a readiness for market introduction. The design of Lunar Lake, as showcased during the presentation, includes a large die possibly comprising multiple tiles or chiplets, and on-package DRAM, aligning with Intel’s focus on efficiency and performance optimization. These announcements mark a significant milestone for Intel, showcasing its commitment to innovation and advancement in processor technology.
