Final Fantasy series producer Yoshinori Kitase stated in an interview that Square Enix is interested in developing more titles for the PC platform.
Final Fantasy has been well-rooted in the console platform with a few MMO titles available for PC but with the recent release of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII on Steam, interest has definitely grew for the company in developing more for the PC.
Kitase mentions that Final Fantasy XIII was developed on the PC but due to security concerns and the market situation, they decided against pursuing it further.
“But we see potential in it and there are lots of regions and countries where PC is very strong. So in terms of our hope of being able to deliver our games to every single country in the world and to as many gamers as possible, yes, we would definitely be interested in pursuing that route in the future.”
Kitase mentioned the both Steam release of FF7 and FF8 have proven successful which could help explain the company’s interest in creating more content for the platform.
”Final Fantasy 7 and 8 are now available on PC and they’ve been proving quite popular, it’s an early stage for us. We haven’t got an awful lot of experience in this field. So when we have more know-how and experience in this market we would be very interested.”
Final Fantasy XV has been announced but is currently exclusive for PS4 and XBoxOne. We hope this news persuades the company to push more into porting the existing Final Fantasy XIII titles as well as the upcoming Final Fantasy XV.
