Gamescon 2018 started with bang with a keynote from NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang. Streamed at twitch.tv/nvidia and on their Facebook page with over 150,000 viewers waiting for the announcement of the all new RTX 20 series.
The Keynote started with a video of Nvidia’s achievements and a variety of games from the 90s to the present. Nvidia’s CEO started his speech saying that details from leaks were all wrong. He then followed with a quick recap of different effects for making games realistic with lighting such as Ambient Occlusion and Ray Tracing followed by the reveal of the Nvidia RTX 20 series.
Turing architecture is the heart of the new RTX series with Nvidia claiming it to be the greatest GPU leap since 2006. The RT core has a spec 10 gigarays/sec, almost 10x with the GTX 1080 Ti’s 1.21 gigarays/sec. Turing also uses a new way of computing with 78T RTX-OPS, over 6.5x faster than the Titan X’s 12T.T he new Nvidia RTX 20 series use RTX Hybrid Rendering combining Rasterization and Ray Tracing. Ray Tracing is the key feature for the RTX series which was first showcased at GDC 2018 in the form of a short Star Wars Stormtrooper clip.
The GeForce RTX 20 Series Founder’s Edition cards feature an all new cooling design now with 2 fans. The RTX 2080 Ti Founder’s Edition is priced at $1,199 while thr GTX 2080 and 2070 Founder’s Edition is priced at $799 and $599 respectively. Pre-orders are now open at Nvidia’s website.
The RTX 2080 Ti requires 2x 8-pin PCIe while the RTX 2080 requires a 6-pin + 8-pin power connector. The RTX 2070 requires a single 8-pin connector for power.
