NVIDIA Brings VR to SEA

BossMac SubaBy BossMac SubaDecember 17, 201518 Comments2 Mins Read

NVIDIA invited us to sample their new VR experiences using the HTC VIVE and Oculus Crescent Bay. NVIDIA has been pushing virtual reality experiences powered by GeForce and these demos are intended to showcase the power of NVIDIA GPUs and how far they’ve taken the technology together with developers.

NVIDIA has setup a special VR experience for medias and power users last weekend to let them experience the latest VR demos available via Oculus Rift and HTC powered by NVIDIA hardware. The Oculus demo had us lounging in a chair with an Xbox One gamepad and a couple of games are available to play. We can’t show you images of these games but take my word for it, they’re really mind-blowing. From sports, RPGs and space jet simulation, it’s a really, really engaging visual feast but not as engaging as the one they have next…

The HTC VIVE VR demo is a much more engaging experience where you literally are placed in an virtual environment and interact with your surroundings. While the Oculus CB1 experience is action-packed, the HTC VIVE experience is more immersive as you get to experience interacting with your virtual environment. The demo had us walking around, drawing in the air, tinkering with virtual drawers and being ultimately blown-up by GlaDOS from Portal. I love her, I don’t care if she’s evil. She’s cute.

Both demos showcase the advancements of NVIDIA in the VR space and there’s really plenty to look out for when it comes to VR content in the future. Again, you’ll be needing a juicy GPU to drive these VR headsets at 90FPS per eye, if ever you’re eyeing to get one of these at home.

Back2Gaming wow really? how does it feel wearing that? Have you tried it in minecraft roller coaster?

I tried rollercoaster before last June, I nearly puked my guts out. They had me try some games and interactive demos, really really mind-blowing stuff. You can actually fiddle around the virtual environment. Two things though, for the HTC VIVE experience you’re still wired so you get tangled around it if you walk too much. For the oculus, you’re stuck in a couch.

Back2Gaming that’s cool. How much does that thing cost? I saw one in YouTube. It was the Filipina gamer. Forgot his name.

Not sure about costs it varies really and hard to get here in PH. There’s a lot of groups that do have it and bring it over here in PH for demos but the HTC VIVE I’ve yet to see in events. Oculus you can find in SM North EDSA right now, they have a rover 4D simulator over there at the gaming hub which opened just yesterday.
