This is completely out of nowhere but VideoCardz is releasing images of MSI’s collab edition with Toho Co., which are the rightsholder for Godzilla. Now to any regular person, this may just be a random branding collaboration but given the strength that some collab releases have recently shown, some parallels are helpful when the connection is made.
MSI’s RTX 3070 LHR SUPRIM SE GODZILLA is a straight recolor of the SUPRIM silver heatsink and backplate. Other than that, a distinct Godzilla artwork is printed on the backplate along with the classic Japanese Godzilla logotype.
This follows some popular collabs that we’ve recently with Japanese IPs particularly ASUS’ Gundam collaboration which was supposedly a China-exclusive but is now available outside many Asian countries. For MSI, aligning with Toho goes in line with their dragon branding and while the kaiju ain’t no dragon, Gojira’s the baddest lizard around, no questions asked. Whether you love the recent Hollywood adaptation or the Shin Godzilla reboot, Godzilla has had some good resurgence lately and while I feel the branding feels too little on this project, its a good start for MSI.
As of this, only the RTX 3070 LHR is mentioned and availability would probably be restricted to Japan only.
