Ryzen Zen3 Mobile CPUs Detail Surface Along RTX 3060 Max-Q, AMD Makes its ROG Zephyrus Debut

BossMac SubaBy BossMac SubaDecember 6, 2020No Comments3 Mins Read

An industry source extremely close to ASUS has sent us images listing upcoming specs for AMD’s mobile CPUs. This information is corroborated as well by recent reports from Tom’s Hardware about the Geekbench leak we received with the image. With AMD Ryzen getting much clamor thanks to their new CPUs, many are anticipating their eventual insertion into the high-end gaming laptop market.

Since its inception, ASUS has relegated AMD into their 2nd-class ROG products like the ROG Strix and TUF Gaming line-up but as this photos indicate, that may be changing. ASUS’ 2021 Zephyrus lineup will see now see the AMD Ryzen CPUs powering their gaming laptops. This also ushers in the news of NVIDIA’s RTX 30 series cards in the laptop space.

Ryzen Zen3 Mobile Cpus Detail Surface Along Rtx 3060 Max-Q, Amd Makes Its Rog Zephyrus Debut

CPU Cores/Threads Base/Boost Clock (Ghz) L3 Cache (MB) TDP Release
Ryzen 9 5900HX 8/16 3.3/4.6 16 45(?) TBA 2021
Ryzen 9 5900HS 8/16 3.1/4.5 16 35(?) TBA 2021
Ryzen 9 4900H 8/16 3.3/4.4 8 45 3/16/2020
Ryzen 9 4900HS 8/16 3.0/4.4 8 32 3/16/2020

The new Ryzen mobile CPUs are expected to be forged on the same Zen3 7nm TSMC process used currently on their desktop counterparts. The document above currently shows 2 SKUs: the Ryzen 9 5900HX and Ryzen 9 5900HS. Both of which are 8 core, 16-thread part separated by (currently non-final) TDP ratings and clock speeds. Both CPUs will have 16MB of L3 cache with TBA estimated to be around 2021.

The document also shares with us a screenshot of the system’s benchmark score. Checking the Geekbench result, we can see the model of the new laptop is the ASUS ROG GX551QS and is sporting a Ryzen 9 5900HX as well as 48GB of DDR4 memory.

Comparing the results with an Intel 10th-gen laptop CPU, particularly their flagship Core i9-10880H, the results are a mixed bag but those closest to the configuration used on the Ryzen ROG GX551QS, the results are looking closely matched but with sentiments going against Intel in the current market, the general consensus will put this in AMD’s favor as they progress towards a new performance landscape.

As mentioned, ASUS is planning to launch the laptops paired with higher RTX 30-series cards. The list above shows us the following GPUs that will be used on ASUS’ flagship ROG gaming laptops:

  • NVIDIA RTX 3080
  • NVIDIA RTX 3070
  • NVIDIA RTX 3060 Max-Q

This can be expected to debut in CES 2021 this January where AMD CEO Lisa Su is scheduled to deliver her keynote.
