It seems that Sony’s nightmare isn’t over after it’s online division, Sony Online Entertainment has shut down it’s service yesterday. SOE, Sony’s division handling it’s various MMO titles such as Ultima Online and DC Universe Online has closed it’s service after the company learned of the attacks.
Sony has reported that this isn’t a “second wave” attack but it is rather connected to the PSN attack. The worst news is that Sony has reported that 12,700 non-US credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (not cc security codes) and about 10,700 debit records of certain customers in Austria, Germany and the Netherlands and Spain were pilfered.
While it was already said that the PSN and SOE database are totally different, Sony explains that “While the two systems are distinct and operated separately, given that they are both under the SONY umbrella, there is some degree of architecture that overlaps. The intrusions were similar in nature. This is NOT a second attack; new information has been discovered as part of our ongoing investigation of the external intrusion in April.”
Hence the explanation that this is connected to the PSN/Qriocity attack rather than a second attack.
