I may be reaching here, but it looks like a remaster of Final Fantasy XII is well under way. Prima Games, a publishing company of strategy guides in the United States, has just announced their second FINAL FANTASY box set that’s pegged for a November release. Now that may not be interesting at all($122 for a game guide?), but what’s notable about the inclusions of the box set is, wait for it.. a Final Fantasy XII game guide. Now why is that?
While we’re considering that the ‘REMASTER’ text is only on the spines of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, it would make no sense to include Final Fantasy XII in the box set since the game is already nine years old, and it still doesn’t have a remaster edition to make it current gen to be a part of the new set, unless Squeenix is planning to release one soon.
This would possibly coincide with Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds Orchestra conductor composer Arnie Roth’s statement about the Final Fantasy XII Remake HD Remaster happening. The terms ‘remake’ and ‘remaster’ have been used frequently in errors, with one usually replacing the other. But whatever the case, an HD remaster for the current gen consoles, and hopefully for PCs, will be just fine.
As for which platform, it’s a safe bet (but hopefully I’m mistaken) that the HD remaster will only be for the Playstation, it’s either the PS3, PS4, Vita, or all, if we’re following what Square-Enix did with the previous FFX and X-2 HD remasters.
But with no official announcement in sight and loads of rumors and speculations abound, the Mist still hasn’t cleared. We can wait if it means it’s happening, right? And still, I’d rather have Balthier and the gang instead of watching angsty Advent Children-esque Cloud dress up in Don Corneo’s mansion. I still don’t know how that would play out on the Final Fantasy VII remake. I shudder to think of it.
