UPDATE: As of this update, the issue has been resolved and those that received the message should try reactivating again. For those that downgraded, you can go ahead and upgrade to the Pro version again with no issues.
With Windows 10 still suffering from the backlash users have gotten after its October update (1809) deleted files by mistake on some users. Windows had to pull that update and figure out how it happened. As of this moment they are readying the fixed 1809 update for a relaunch.
Recently a new issue has arisen which has affectted mmany users in multiple regions (including myself in the Philippines). The new bug was reported on Reddit by users who have received a sudden deactivation of their Windows 10 Pro systems. Clicking the Troubleshoot tool brings up a prompt saying that the license found on the system is a Windows 10 Home Digital license and that reinstallation of the Home version was needed for the user to continue using the license.
Microsoft has just released an Emerging issue announcement about current activation issue related to Pro edition recently. This happens in Japan, Korea, American and many other countries. I am very sorry to inform you that there is a temporary issue with Microsoft’s activation server at the moment and some customers might experience this issue where Windows is displayed as not activated. Our engineers are working tirelessly to resolve this issue and it is expected to be corrected within one to two business days.“
Microsoft’s Jeff Jones, Senior Director has stated that “A limited number of customers experienced an activation issue that our engineers have now addressed. Affected customers will see resolution over the next 24 hours as the solution is applied automatically. In the meantime, they can continue to use Windows 10 Pro as usual.”
This was followed up by a statement from Jeff Jones, a senior director at the company, who went on to say “A limited number of customers experienced an activation issue that our engineers have now addressed. Affected customers will see resolution over the next 24 hours as the solution is applied automatically. In the meantime, they can continue to use Windows 10 Pro as usual.”
If you’re having this bug, Microsoft advices to standby for the fix that will be rolled out soon.
Editor’s Note: So I was personally hit with this bug on my main work PC that has a Windows 10 Pro Retail license. I tried resetting the machine and then afterwards reinstalling a clean copy of Windows. All of them invalidated my Pro license to a Home license only although during the installation screen you can enter the key and Windows will proceed to install the right version.
