Sony has just dropped exciting news: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (you can read our PlayStation 5 review here) is officially heading to PC on January 30, 2025, available via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The catch? One that PC players, especially in regions like the Philippines, might not be too thrilled about: in an all-too-familiar move, Sony’s PSN region lock will rear its head again, effectively preventing players in specific countries from accessing the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PC on platforms like Steam. You can see for yourself via the official Steam Store page for the game.
This isn’t the first time Sony has pulled this “heel move.” Earlier in the year, we saw similar restrictions with Helldivers 2, God of War Ragnarok, and Ghost of Tsushima, the latter two being single-player games where such restrictions feel especially unnecessary. While you might argue that Helldivers 2, being an online title, could justify this restriction, it seems odd and even more frustrating for games that are primarily single-player experiences. So why does Sony continue to enforce these limitations? It’s a head-scratcher for sure, and fans are rightfully curious (and annoyed).
System Requirements Highlighted
With that frustration out of the way, let’s get into the key bits: the PC system requirements. Whether you’re planning on swinging through New York in style with top-of-the-line specs or just hoping to scrape by with minimum settings, here’s what you’ll need to know:
Component | Minimum | Recommended |
---|---|---|
OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
Processor (CPU) | Intel Core i5-4670 / AMD Ryzen 5 1600 | Intel Core i7-8700 / AMD Ryzen 7 3700X |
Memory (RAM) | 8 GB | 16 GB |
Graphics (GPU) | NVIDIA GTX 1060 (6 GB) / AMD RX 580 (8 GB) | NVIDIA RTX 3070 (8 GB) / AMD RX 6800 (16 GB) |
DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
Storage | 75 GB SSD | 75 GB SSD |
The PC version of Spider-Man 2 is being developed by Nixxes Software, in collaboration with Insomniac Games and Marvel Games, to deliver an optimized experience with enhanced ray-tracing, keyboard and mouse controls, and ultra-widescreen support.
Sony’s insistence on PSN region locking for a single-player-focused title is a puzzling move, especially when the appeal of PC gaming lies in its global accessibility. Yet, despite these hurdles, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks set to be an exciting addition to the PC gaming library. As we approach launch day, fans will no doubt be eager to suit up—but for many, the real battle may just be finding a way to play the game at all.
Let’s hope Sony rethinks this curious strategy before the game’s release.

Akala ko talaga takot si venom sa apoy
Franco John Paul totoo. weakness nya dapat yan bukod sa powerful sounds kaya gulat ako may fire worshipping faction dito sa Spiderman game na maging eventual following ni carnage
Someone told me it’s possible to switch your Steam region to the USA and buy the region-locked games, but you have to wait 3 months before you can switch back
Miguel Araneta this is true. i was going to switch to Taiwan when i was there last june para mabili tsushima but saw they now implement the 3 month thing. i have US only games i got thru that buts its been a while so im not sur when they started implementating it
kelan kaya ang remaster version nyan?
Yeah, I totally agree—region locking a single-player game like Spider-Man 2 feels really outdated, especially on PC where global access is kind of the norm. It’s frustrating for players who just want to enjoy the game without jumping through hoops. Hopefully Sony reconsiders this approach in the future, because it definitely puts a damper on an otherwise highly anticipated release.
