CLOSER LOOK
ASUS ditches the MMO-inspired box art with a new universal boxart they use for both AMD and NVIDIA DirectCUII model cards. The box still displays the model name, features and other highlights in the same manner as the old packaging. AMD models bear a red scheme and NVIDIA cards have a green highlight to them.
ASUS’ DirectCUII sports a new look, doing away with curves and going for sharp and aggressive lines with a more distinct bright red highlighting the card.
The R9 270X’ DirectCUII implementation features a 3-heatpipe heatsink cooled by 2 fans. Unlike the HD7870 before it, the R9 270X DCUII features a straight 2-slot cooler.
Taking the cooler apart, we’re greeted by a nicely laid-out PCB. ASUS outfits the R9 270X DirectCUII TOP with a 6+2 VRM which is plenty enough for a decent everyday overclock.
The R9 270X requires two PCI-e 6-pin power connectors. Display options include dual-DVI ports, an HDMI and DisplayPort.
