The ASUS HD7970 Matrix Platinum is one solid-performing card. Let’s break down our scoring.
Performance out of the box is very impressive BUT there is still room as the Matrix Platinum is an OC-oriented card, higher clocks would’ve really given it that out-of-the-box edge. We’re docking it half a point for this. Moving on the build quality, the HD7970 Matrix Platinum scores a perfect 10 for the solid construction, choice components and the very stylish DirectCU II cooler with the ROG theme going on which sets it apart its mainstream brothers.
Functionality and bundle also score perfect 10 with the OC features and inclusions heavily tied in with the other ROG products, the ASUS HD7970 Matrix Platinum goes way beyond the simple gaming needs. The built in status lighting also gives the Matrix Platinum that extra visual appeal for windowed side-panel users.
Finally it all boils down to price. Retailing for ₱28,990, its no cheap HD7970 and for the sole reason that it extends itself further than most HD7970 in the market. If you’re not going to OC this card, you’re better off getting anything more affordable. The Matrix Platinum, as we can see in the testing, easily hands the GTX680 a loss once overclocked. The inclusion of the onboard buttons makes sure all user, regardless of experience, gets to experience what the HD7970 Matrix Platinum is capable of provided you’re willing to poke around and mess with it. Otherwise, ASUS offers the GPU TweakIt tool for overclocking their card. Other thing that adds up value are the extra VRM sinks, voltage hotwire, that mousepad and of course the 3 years warranty.
You may find it hard to get your hands on the HD7970 Matrix Platinum, but it is one of those gems that is surely worth the wait once it pasess by. If you have a thing for the ROG brand and want an excellent HD7970 in your rig, the ASUS HD7970 Matrix Platinum is a top-choice and we give it our Gold Award.
