Yes, Mr. Wayne, it does come in black. The ASUS RT-N66U is clad in faux carbon-fibre body with status lights breaking the uniform upper shell of the router. The simple styling of the Dark Knight belies its true nature and one would actually be somewhat disappointed by the simplistic form of the RT-N66U.
The rear of the RT-N66U gives us access to 4 LAN ports, 3 WIFI antennas, a WAN port and 2 USB ports.
ASUS has given the RT-N66U three antennas for maximum connectivity and these have very good moving angles.
Here is the ASUS Dark Knight RT-N66U along with our security workhorse, our good ol’ ASUS SL-1000 security router.
Packaging is reminiscent of most ASUS products and shows the features of the router. The back has a list of more detailed features.
Opening up the packaging, we are presented with a good bundle of variable plugs for the power adaptor, a stand bracket and the antennas. Some assembly required and the antennas themselves tend to get loose after a bit of moving around. We suggest finding a good position and sticking with that before setting up the router in its final placement.
The configuration screen is rich with options and upon first opening, the Quick Internet Setup screen is presented. Depending on the users Internet access setup, the wizard will either breeze through the process or ask for a few inputs. The config panel is mostly dynamic in nature and provides a quick navigation through its features.
