Free Android Game Review: Fruit Ninja vs. Fruit Slice

I’ve always confused these two games but having sat down with both for a while now, one game rates slightly higher than the other. Both games involve fruit slicing action and are almost like clones when it comes to graphics and some gameplay elements. The objective of both games are the same, slice as many fruits as possible without missing or it’s game over.

FRUIT SLICE

Classic game mode: Slice the fruits as they come on screen and avoid slicing the bombs. Slicing the bombs will end the game. You are also given 3 chances to miss slicing fruits.

Time game mode: This time you are give 1 minute and 40 seconds to slice as many fruits as you can. You can miss out on slicing some fruits and if you happen to slice them in one swipe, you’ll earn bonus points. At the upper left of the screen you’ll see your score and the last high score that you need to beat.

Pipeline game mode: On the upper right of the screen, you’ll see a line of fruits kinda like on a conveyor belt. These are the order of fruits that you have to slice. If you happen to slice a fruit that is not on the belt, this will make the fruits go faster. A full pipeline spells gameover.

One shot game mode: This game mode requires you to slice fruits in the combination of they appear in the upper right box. The level of completeness is indicated by the dots on the upper left side of the screen. The apple works as a timer, so you’d better keep an eye on this too.

FRUIT NINJA

Classic game mode: Exactly the same as the game mode in Fruit Slice complete with avoiding the bombs.

Arcade game mode: This is the one I like the most because the gameplay is varied. It’s the timed version of the game. You still have to do the fruit-slicing action but this time when you slice a glowing fruit, you get different effects like freeze, double points and frenzy. Glowing bombs are also thrown into the mix, when you slice these, they subtract seconds from your timer.

Zen game mode: There are no bombs in this mode and you can clearly see a timer on the upper right hand corner of the screen. So this is not an unlimited stage. On the upper left instead of seeing scores from acquiring bonuses from slicing fruits, you’ll see your sliced fruit count.

In comparing both fruit slicing games, I believe Fruit Slice stands out more because of the variety of games it offers even though I really liked playing the arcade mode of Fruit Ninja. Both games are good time wasters and although not as challenging as some free Android games out there, they’re still worth the download.

I downloaded Fruit Slice the other day thinking “WTF is this?” since I’d played Fruit Ninja forever and had never heard of Fruit Slice. It’s almost identical, but, yes, Fruit Ninja is slightly better.
