For most PC Gamers and enthusiasts, whenever we here G.Skill, we instantly think of their high performance DDR3 and DDR4 RAM, amplifying our daily needs of high-speed goodness. Here, it’s not the case.  What we have today, might not be what you’d expect from them.

In 2015 they released the MP780 Professional Gaming Mousepad. Ironic as it seems, but it looks like G.Skill is expanding their range of products. Does it live to it’s standards? Is it able to compete with other branded gaming mousepads? Does it have that G.Skill quality? Let’s find out.

PACKAGING

The packaging of the G.Skill Ripjaws MP780 is pretty much what you’d expect from a gaming mousepad, which is no extra freebies whatsoever. Around the box is the description and features of the product.

This is somewhat not really important considering that the product itself is at stake, but the box I might say is very durable. Despite the weird advertisement of it’s features around it.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I’m an avid fan of G.Skill’s memory. And when I heard that they released a mousepad, I was like “Wow! Guess they’re expanding they’re line of products.”, so I had alot of expectations of this mousepad, considering that, G.Skill is famed for their high-performance RAM, and the price-tag is very hefty considering it’s size.

The size is just “Average”, bigger than a SteelSeries QckMini, Razer Goliathus Small, yet smaller than a SteelSeries Qck Large. It isn’t an extended mousepad as you can see, and for it’s price I’d say you should definitely expect alot.

FABRIC

The fabric isn’t stated as to what kind, though it’s described as “Smooth Textile Weaved”, on which I’d say is on spot. The mousepad is mostly smooth suggest a speed surface.13233316_640899556060836_1425314174_N

Here we have the printed G.Skill Ripjaws logo at the lower right corner of the mousepad.

Over here we have the well-weaved edges.

As you can clearly see here, the mousepad just absorbs water. No water-resistance whatsoever.

USER EXPERIENCE & VERDICT

Testing the G.Skill Ripjaws MP780 in various games like DOTA2 and CSGO I feel like the overall experience with the mouse pad is okay. I have slight preference to grittier and grainier mouse pads which the MP780 isn’t but that doesn’t take away anything from this surface as it perfectly offers a good mousing surface for those who prefer a speed-type texture with the smoother grain.

As indicated in the images above, quality is quite good for its price which we’ll talk about later but focusing more on the build quality, the MP780 mouse pad is just right. It doesn’t have any special properties nor does G.Skill advertises it so but props to G.Skill for not fluffing it up too much. This mouse pad is NOT water-resistant so if you accidentally spilled some drink in this thing, its gonna seep into the fabric.

As a reputable brand, we had hoped for something more special from the Ripjaws MP780 but as the price suggests, this $13 mouse pad isn’t intended to be a high-calibre offering but mostly as an initial stab to decorate the full arsenal of G.Skill gaming peripherals. That said, its an overall ok product but for discerning gamers, its minimal surface area and texture quality might not be up to snuff. G.Skill might still be considering creating a more “proper” gaming mousepad but in the meantime, the G.Skill Ripjaws MP780 is all they have and its just a tad bit below most of the major brands’ mainstream offerings. Its hard to really recommend this product but if you’re getting it for free or $5, there’s not a reason to complain.
