With SSDs all the rage lately in storage, we’ve noted how it’s hard to stand-out in this fierce market. And while performance has seemingly reached the saturation point for SATAIII offerings, its a different battle altogether for those in the value segment where companies battle it out on who offers the most out of their product for less cost. We’ve taken a look at many Plextor products in the past and we’ve seen how the company can play around in the SSD space when they feel like it but for this round they’re offering a serious contender in the value segment with their new product; the Plextor M6V SSD series.
The Plextor M6V series features 15nm Toshiba Toggle NAND flash and sports a Silicon Motion SMI-2246 controller which helps drive the costs down. While that may sound unappealing, note that we’ve checked out another Silicon Motion controlled drive in the recent months and ended up surprised at just how much performance we got from such a bargain SSD. The Plextor M6V aims to do the same. One more trick the Plextor M6V has up its sleeve is its DRAM cache drive capacities ranging from 128GB, 256GB and 512GB receiving 128MB, 256MB and 512MB DRAM caches respectively to boost performance when applicable. Another thing going on for it is PlexTurbo which not only uses the existing DRAM cache to boost read and write speeds, it also utilizes system RAM to get faster performance out of the drive. PlexTurbo also helps extend the lifespan of the SSD by reducing unnecessary writes to the drive.
- Up to 535 MB/s Sequential Read
- Up to 455 MB/s Sequential Write

Conclusion

Let’s break down the score for the Plextor M6V SSD:
Performance. Our sample is the 256GB model which is rated for 335MB/s write performance and 535MB/s read performance. Plextor is a bit modest as we can see the drive peaking at 560MB/s read and 350MB/s write speeds. Read performance alone is fantastic and while write may be a bit lower, remember that this is a a value-oriented product and applications for these types of SSDs does focus on their reading off them. Which leads us to the addition of PlexTurbo which leverages system RAM to act as a super-fast cache enabling our Plextor M6V to reach insane speeds when needed.
Build Quality. Speaking of PlexTurbo, this caching technology also eliminates the need for unnecessary file writes to the drive especially in some scenarios where small changes to files happen. Plextor uses the cache in user-selected intervals and commits them to disk when final reducing SSD writes, prolonging the drive’s lifespan. Plextor has not made mention of the lifespan of these drives though.
Functionality. As a SATAIII drive, the Plextor M6V is very much at home at any application but it will benefit users the most as mostly a primarily “read-heavy” drive like for the operating system and for games/applications. The drive will easily serve up files for these applications speeding up loading times especially with the help of PlexTurbo.
Bundle. We’d expected some extras like SATA cables and a free edition of a cloning software but Plextor really kept the Plextor M6V as an essentials-only bundle with the box only including the SSD inside.
Value. The Plextor M6V currently is available in three capacities: 128GB, 256GB (the one we tested) and 512GB and are priced at $63, $119, $242 respectively. At these prices, they’re competitively priced and note that these are SRPs so street prices could be lower. Also note that Plextor has made their PlexTurbo technology now available for this drive wherein it used to be an exclusive for their higher-end parts.
If you’re looking to get into the SSD game, 256GB is the current optimal capacity. Looking at the Plextor M6V we have a solid offer at the 256GB sweet spot at $119 with read performance really looking good especially if you realize these is almost the same results we’d see from high-end drives. While write speeds are not as high as what we see from top-of-the-line SSDs, that’s not what Plextor is aiming for with the M6V series.
With a competitive price and solid performance, the Plextor M6V is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a fast storage solution but don’t want to go spend more on a top-end SSDs. The bonus of having PlexTurbo to boost performance also makes the M6V an effective solution for high-performance needs.
Plextor backs the M6V SSD with a 3-year warranty. We give the Plextor M6V SSD our B2G Value Award.

Na-nenok ng kapatid ko mga extra SSDs ko.
I need it for my need build :3
I need it to replace my HDD for OS because it’s starting to slow down its performance.. i want to experience having an SSD so winning this would mean a lot to me. Thanks B2G and Plextor ^_^
Aaww less than 5k? Ayos!
Probably what ill be suggesting for our office PCs. Thanks b2g! <3
Im currently using a 128GB ssd for my OS and the reason I want to win this Plextor M6V SSD 256GB is because i’m running out of space with my 128GB ssd. I’m currently playing DotA 2 and it eats a lot of space of my ssd for every updates and saving the best moments of playing this game with my younger brother and friends for fun.
If I win this Plextor M6V SSD 256GB, I will give my current 128GB ssd to my younger brother for him to feel the difference between using an SSD and HDD for OS. I want to give the best help i can give to my younger brother so winning this competition would be a great help to me and my younger brother.
Thanks Back2Gaming & Plextor Philippines!
I’ve been using Plexor SSD (PX-256M2P) for years now and still work great and fast. I need more space for new games and apps <3
Well, basically, since I don’t have and SSD installed in my rig, the PLEXTOR M6V will just simply talk to it and say…
“Oh, I’m not going to hertz ya…
I’m just gonna make ya….
really, really, FAST!”
Boom
i have a slow as molasses 5900RPM Seagate ><..
storageeeeeeeeeee…
I need it 🙂
I’m currently using a Kingston 60 GB SSD. It would be nice if I got an upgrade for my build.
I need to win this. At least for the first time, I can hold an ssd. My pc needs it.
I need this because SSDs are <3 <3 😀
The brand is relatively unheard especially kingston, intel and other giant companies dominates the “ssd wars” will plextor push through ? or will they sink on broken expectations and broken dreams ?
and btw im a student relatively short on budget and an ssd is no reach forme but if i win this raffle it will be a very big help for me 😉
I want to try SSD’s.They said it’s blazing fast. Wanna try it myself, specially this Plextor M6V, IT’S A BEAST!
Why do I want to win? My Laptop’s HDD health rate is at 10%. I’m surprised its still working even if its struggling already and waiting for its last breath. This laptop is given by my father 7 years ago and still using it for my studies running MS Office , Paint , Warcraft 3 and other low memory usage softwares. If I win this SSD, I’m gonna swap the hard disk, which boots up for 3 min just to get to windows 7 desktop and run basic applications. If I got amazed by the performance of the SSD, which is likely to happen, I will freakin break my HDD and won’t go back to HDD anymore! This SSD is gonna save me a lot of time for my daily activities. Thanks to this giveaway and giving us a chance to win an awesome SSD.
haven’t used an SSD since then, so if I’m going to win then I will gladly share my experience using SSD :D. goodluck to all
I want to get this amazing SSD, because I still using my 160gb SataII HDD for 7 years.
I need this to my system bec i do photoshop and playing games a lot. it would be nice if i had an ssd like plextor m6v bec this would finish some of my projects faster and perform much better in the games that i play.
Would have to have a new SSD since my old one is already slowing down 🙁 thanks for the chance
kasi wala akong pambili ng SSD, kaya naasa nalang ako sa mga raffle
Because I would want to own a ssd I just never had the money to buy one. but Im currently saving on one the cheapest one which is “kingston” please let me win this one
would like to have one but cant afford ohh student life too many want things to buy but dont have the funds
Gimme one!
If I win, you can have it! oh wait~ lol haha
Because I want greener pasture for my OS storage hehe
been using my 1tb WD Green for Games and OS, having one drive dedicated for those things would really help =D
I need this haha
… missing link in my rig, cum over here!!!
playing the triple-a titles from this would be perfect.
I want to win a Plextor M6V SSD because I want to experience the speed of launching/loading time of the OS and applications I got and also to see the performance difference from my SSHD that I’m currently using. If I win this SSD, this could be a great drive for the applications I’m using as an online freelancer, this could save me time and I can work efficiently.
awesome SSD getting better and better
I hope I will win this giveaway. This will definitely boost up my daily computer tasks.
Would actually want to have a separate SSD just for games. I actually have a Plextor SSD for my C: drive and given its performance I would want to have another one of Plextor’s.
Cant go wrong with plextor!
I always join but I never win.
This SSD would be my first if I win the giveaway haha. More power to Plextor!
Awesome SSD! need it for my Hackintosh build :3
I will be looking forward to be using your SSD if I happen to win, I haven’t experienced using an SSD and I hear that will greatly improve my computer experience with it
I really want to try the ssds speeds than my hdd i would love the plextor it suits to my theme thanks 🙂
wow..its affordable and also dependable.. I want to have one!!!!
I want it, to improve my build. 😀
I’ve never tried an SSD before. I don’t know what the big deal is with SSDs, I mean, sure they make your PC boot fast, faster read and write times, it runs quietly, and the faster loading time of your games IF you installed it on your SSD, of course. But other than that, it costs so much and has little space for the latest AAA games (a lot of new games take up 60+GB). I’d prefer the larger HDD but when the time comes that SSDs will be much cheaper and with bigger capacities, I’d certainly not pass the opportunity!
done
To be honest with you Plextor, i haven’t use SSD and i couldn’t afford it :). Considering my country (PHL).
But i like to win this giveaway, so that i myself can test and observe the edge of SSD’s over HDD’s in all aspects of Computing. That i may too believe in the astonishing comments of the people who have use SSD’s for their computer.
Im excited for my own review for this product of yours Plextor. 🙂
Once you solid state you can never go back 🙂 #SSD #Plextor #WorkingGamer
Starting to build my own desktop. This would be a good compromise for a hdd

I’d like to have a SSD because my hdd is getting slower by the day.

Syempre FAMILY First Muna.Pag may budget na Pero sana Manalo
Many Thanks FOr #PlextorPhilippines and #Back2Gaming For This GIVEAWAY Oppurtunity
GOD BLESS US…
If I win this SSD, I could replace my old hard drive in my laptop and my laptop would be performing fast again. I want this SSD because I like it’s read and write speed. As a student while I’m working on my projects and reports on my laptop, my current hard drive is a little bit slow and as the time goes by it is getting slower so this SSD is the answer to my problem.
I really need this. I’m still running on a mechanical drive. . Thank you #Back2Gaming and #Plextor Philippines for the Opportunity
I really wish to win this Plextor M6V SSD because this can boost the performance of my PC. The current hard drive I’m using right now is getting slower and could be unreliable because it is already 4 year old and might die anytime soon.
Wow ! Very nice SSD 🙂 It would be great for working 😉
I’m planning to get a new rig before this year ends… this will really save me and would be my first time experience of ssd if ever I got this 😀
I need a new SSD for a new build, I really need an upgrade.
I would love to experience what Plextor product is offering and I hope i’ll enjoy using it
I’d to lobe to win this baby! Who wouldn’t want to?! Haha Thanks B2G!
This will be a good upgrade for my aging 1st gen i series build. Since i dont have any plans on upgrading my whole rig, this plextor ssd can contribute more faster booting/read speed on my build.
This might help me for my first build! 😀
EDI WOW!
i need this to boost my computer performance!!
I need it for my Alienware 13
I need this..Tired of using slow HDDs..
i would like to try this one cause i dont have ssd.
This is definitely worth a buy. Winning this speed demon and installing it on my desktop will definitely boost my user experience and boost overall productivity.
SSD Speed Zoom!!!
wow such speed. very mine
I need an SSD to make the Diskless perfectly work for my shop. SSD is known and tested for its speed and is essential to a Computer Shop Server for Network Booting. It can boot a system in less than 20 seconds (from POST to Desktop).
If its best for business, we can expect more if it is used at home.
I’m considering to build a new PC since my old one was sold because of some financial problems and since all of those problems were fixed, I want to give a shot to build a new PC.
I really want to try SSD on my next build because I’ve read many good reviews about it and how it makes your pc fast (eg, booting, transferring files etc.). So if ever I win here, I will surely use it for good and it will surely boost my pc to the next level! Makakatipid pa ko. 😛
Now this is the real deal! 256GB SSD from Plextor!
SSDs are a must have in building PCs!
Currently, my PC needs about 5 minutes to completely startup and be done with the background apps. Would be great to see this boot fast in maybe seconds or just a couple minutes? I’m just honestly worried about the durability of an SSD, though. I’ve read some reviews about it’s cons.
Also, thanks B2G for this opportunity to us that joined.
Too much space for most used programs and that seq. read/write speeds.
I Want to Win , because i need and i will use it .. I have lots of files , video , Etc ..
This is Awesome I Want to WIN Plextor M6V SSD , coz i need more more space for all my Files .. This is Suit for me and Best for me
GGWP
