4K video format is the next stage in multimedia content and it will be arriving soon as more and more devices begin to adopt the support. While display products like monitors and graphics cards are slowly adopting the resolution, with the latest smartphones integrating support for the UltraHD video format. For still and video cameras, support is also growing and the 4K video is very demanding, requiring at least 30MB/s transfer speeds for a smooth capture experience. User Experience & Conclusion
Â
As with most of our storage reviews, we see the maximum potential performance of the device. In this case, the Silicon Power Superior UHS-1 U3 card is rated for 90/45MBs read/write. ATTO disk benchmark is the universal benchmark used by many if not all storage manufacturers to provide a baseline rating for their drives. The benchmark here shows us figures actually higher than their published rating with the Silicon Power Superior UHS-1 U3 card doing almost 95MB/s reads and 65MB/s reads. Smaller file size performance can be ignored as this cards are not intended to be used at such applications that would need file writes at 32KB below.
We took another pass with Crystal DiskMark just to further solidify our previous test. Again we’re seeing performance above the UHS-1 U3 standard specification which requires AT LEAST 30MB/s transfer speeds. CrystalDiskMark shows us figures the same as ATTO with the sequential values showing good numbers.
At around $50, the Silicon Power Superior UHS-1 U3 64GB card is at the lower price bracket of the new U3 cards with most competing models at double the price. The performance is of course substantially different but still, we’re meeting U3 standards here so 4K capture is still within the capacity of the card and that should be plenty enough reason to get one if you’re saving up for something with more capacity.
In closing, the Silicon Power Superior UHS-1 U3 SDXC card is recommended for people with a 4K capture device but don’t need a strictly professional standard storage solution OR if you are mainly recording in 4K video and need an affordable set of backup cards.
Silicon Power backs the Superior UHS-1 U3 SDXC memory card with a lifetime warranty. We give it our B2G Recommended Award.
