The Linux Games of 2017

The Linux Games Of 2017

This year had been a great year for Linux gaming. There are more than 3,900 Linux games now on Steam and it’s really impressive considering that Steam on Linux started with less than 100 games in February 14, 2013 [1][2]. Add to that, there are many “firsts” for Linux gaming in 2017.

  • F1 2017 is the 1st game to use only Vulkan on Linux.
  • HITMAN is the 1st game in the Hitman game franchise that came to Linux.
  • DiRT Rally is the 1st rally game on Linux.

All of those milestones show that Linux gaming is becoming more viable with each passing year. Take note that the list below is just partial because we cannot cover all games being released with Linux support and we excluded games that are still in Early Access stage. If we forgot something, kindly let us know in the comments section.

Most Valve games are also available for Linux. CS GO, Half Life, Left 4 Dead, etc. Other than that, Shadow Warrior, Life is Strange, Killing Floor, Shadow of Mordor, and more. However, Open GL doesn’t take full advantage of the GPU. Hopefully we’ll see more titles which will support Vulkan.
