PPSSPP, a free and open source application that allows Sony PSP (a.k.a. PlayStation Portable) games to be played on a PC, was recently updated to have Vulkan support on Linux. Sony PSP is one of the most successful handheld gaming devices [1][2] and this is great news for those who want to preserve their PSP games and still be able to play them even without the handheld gaming device.
As usual here at Back2Gaming, we donโt just read about stuff, we do our own tests if resources are available. The game play videos below show God of War: Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII running on Linux using Vulkan. PPSSPP runs great on Ubuntu MATE 17.10 using Mesa 18.0.1 and I didn’t encounter any stability issue on my gaming PC equipped with Radeon RX 580 8GB paired with Core i7 7700. The Xbox 360 wired gamepad also works out-of-the-box on PPSSPP, I only had to map the L button and R button.
